Gamestop to stop accepting Xbox trade ins on Feb 9th

GameStop will quit accepting trade-ins of original Xbox games, accessories and systems on February 9. The information comes from an internal memo sent out earlier this week. According to a few managers that we’ve talked to thus far, GameStop will continue selling Xbox stuff until the stocks are toast.

Some stores are receiving signs to indicate the change. We have yet to receive advanced specifics on the wording, color, font, or size of the signs. Chances are they will be boring and won’t comment on the pitiful amount of money Xbox trade-ins have netted consumers over the last three years. The signs almost certainly won’t advise consumers that corporate officials (presumably) grin little shark-toothed grins whenever a person hands off a console to be resold at a greatly inflated price.

As we all know here at Destructoid, the original Xbox has been dead for a while. Now that GameStop is finally acknowledging its lack of relevancy, I’m a bit sad. There is a part of me that misses the grotesquely large controllers, late night sessions of Azurik, and that neon green dashboard.

For the people that liked to be raped by Gamestop trade in value, your time is coming to a close if you've been meaning to trade in any Xbox stuff

wow...that's not a good trade imo - probably would have gotten better off ebay lol, I'm going to list my text books for sale in 2 weeks, around the time when classes open back up for college kids :D I'd trade in books any day for store credit lol, but my games, I'll keep

I was scared that you were going to say PS2 games. I love ps2 games. It's when graphics were good but not too good that they distract from gameplay.

PS2 is going to stay for a long time, used PS2 games still leave the store in droves. If you haven't noticed Gamestops have pretty much been Xbox homeless shelters as so many are trading in but not many buying the used

They are a business after all, If you owned a business and were getting thousands of games from a dead system and shelling out money after money just to have them sit there taking up floor place and not being able to sell them or product that actually does sell because the dead is taking up precious floor place you'd do something like this as well. If you took your green tinted glasses off you'd be able to separate reality and the fanboy fantasy land your currently living in, it's not like Gamespot stores are big and with the music games/Wii Fit already taking up loads of space you just can't sit back and let a dead system let it's homeless children hang out anymore(aka the games)

Yah the only reason that you can still buy ps2 games is because you can still buy the systems new or used. the O.G xbox is nearly extinct except for my modded O.G, shes my baby! lol
