Yesterday we found a stray dog. It was so thin you could see all of it's bones and it was bleeding where it's legs touched the ground when it laid down from being so thin. ;( It's so sad... There was a collar on it, but no tags; and it was so tight that it would have choked it if it wouldn't have been for it being almost starved to death. It's a girl and she's white, black, grey, and brown. I think she's some kind of hunting dog or something. We took her in and we're going to nurse her back to health over the next few months. She's such a nice dog... my dog is usually jealous when other animals are around but he's being really nice to her. My cats weren't even afraid of her and they won't even go near my normal dog. After she gains some wait and we get rid of any worms she may have, we're going to try to find her a new caring home. :D

wow. sounds like animal neglect and perhaps abuse as well. did you call the proper authorities? how about a vet? hope she turns out alright at the end.

I hope she turns out alright too. We didn't call a vet because, quite frankly, we can't afford to. We can only take our dog once a year if we're lucky. She's only been here a day but she seems like she's getting less shaky and happier. Unless she starts getting worse, we probably won't call anybody. If I knew who did it, I definitely would be calling the authorities though. :-P

Aww...
I am so happy to hear that you're taking her in and caring for her. =)
My dad would never let us take in a stray animal.
He's so mean. >_<;
Give her a nice pat on the head for me? lol.

My dad usually won't do things like this... but she was in such bad condition and he's a good guy. I'll be sure to pat her on the head for you then. :)

He isn't much of an animal person..
He hates our cat. .-.

if you knew my dad you would know he's not likely to change either, I never expected him to accept our birds as a part of the family, and my dad is not an animal person at all, my sis wants a cat, but he won't have one in the house, I just one day decided to defy him and get birds anyway cuz I love birds lol
maybe your dad will like birds lol and just like kitty said, there is good in everyone (I'm assuming she's implying that or I'm implying that from her post, whatever makes more sense)

Sorry, can't really pat her anywhere but the head because it could hurt her. But it doesn't really matter now. We found the owner...
Originally, it belonged to this guy (no names mentioned) who everybody knows steals dogs and starves them. That explains why she was in such bad condition. Somebody who lives around our area bought her and another dog from the guy so that they wouldn't die... but they lost one. They asked me if I saw it one the bus today. So they came over and we talked about what happened and we gave them the dog back. I'm going to miss her already... but we really didn't need another dog. I'm just happy she has a home. Still, we did rescue her. If she would have been outside last night or the night before she wouldn't have frozen to death. The temperature has been like below zero.

steals dogs and starves them? call the cops on the guy, that's animal cruelty and theft is a crime.
and yeah you did a great job by temporarily housing her.

No one can prove he steals them because he rips of the tags and so far no one has had a dog with papers on it. If he tried to take ours, we'd be able to bust him. I don't know if he intentionally starves them though. He has like at least 30 dogs and I don't know how he could feed them all. We should really call the cops... I wonder why he hasn't already been arrested.

he hasn't been arrested because no one called the authorities on him, the police don't usually handle these, they have other law enforcement agencies dealing with animal cruelty and animal care - your vet may be able to give you more information on local authorities or you can search it up on the internet.

I'll talk to my parents about it to see what they say. There may be some kind of reason why he hasn't been arrested or something.
Edit: There is a reason. Our county has no animal rights laws or anything. I guess we could get in touch with the state or call ASPCA. I'll see if we can get anything done.

I think people have tried before. I know it's not right to let that go but I'm really in no situation to try to stop it.
Poor doggy.
There's loads of stray cats around here, but there mean. =(

Luckily the dog was really nice... if it would have been mean we wouldn't have been able to help it. Poor kitties...
Yeah.
You see them everywhere, and we have to watch out for there mean kittens in the summer.
But they can watch out for themselves at least. *shiver*
