Ok well, being a poor idiot I brought the 360 arcade a while back, and now I want to go online. I'm not getting a hardrive for a while *Like I said poor idiot* but I have ordered a Ethernet cable, My questions are... Will I be able to send messages and add people without the hardrive?, will I be able to install the new 'experience' if I have 180mb left? and will I still be able to play games (not online) without being bugged to download content?

I mean, i'm not sure how much space the new experience takes up.
I do know that your xbox will have to install it, at some point, to be online though.
So, start erasing, the latter is true.

Don't forget that you can get a 20gb refurbished hard-drive, for the cheap fast.
