Piranha Bytes' Gothic is an unconventional game that takes place in an unconventional setting: a magically sealed prison in a stark, grim fantasy realm.

The game, created originally in Germany is a RPG that also branches out into a fighting, and action game.
The game starts off as you entering a colony and meeting your first friend or possible foe Diego. You play as a nameless character and decide your fate by joining one of the three colonies that exist there.
But before you get to the first colony you have to fight your way through a few monsters and creatures out in the wilderness and, in the beginning, it may seem very hard for one to defeat these monsters which does show the realism of how a prison colony would have actually existed.

The control system is very awkward at first and takes some getting used to and better choices for controls should have been used.
The combat system seems almost flawed. You must draw your melee, ranged weapon, or magic and then you must target your opponent and hit multiple keys to attack.
There is an almost sort of realism to the melee combat where when you (or the person you are fighting) runs out of health you (or they) fall to the ground. You must then use the attack buttons again to impale them as they lay on the ground, or depending on how much another character may like or hate you they may kill you. But ranged weapons and magic kill as soon as you (or they) run out of health.
There is no mouse or cursor in this game so you must turn and look around with your mouse. Also meaning that you must target an item you which to interact with and use the action button combined with the forward motion button (default: upward arrow key).
The graphics of the game, although not great are decent. The game could use several improvements but overall is not terrible.
Game play: 7/10
Controls: 5/10
Graphics: 6/10
Story: 8/10
Overall: 6.5/10
(Overall rating is an average of Game play, Controls, Graphics, and Story ratings)
