What Was Your First RPG?

What was everyone's first RPG?
I was mainly an action/adventure/fighting gamer for a long while.

Then I played 'Shining Force' via the Sega Channel.
That game was all it took to lead me into having the RPG as my favorite genre...even though Shining Force is technically an SRPG.
Btw, anybody here remember the Sega Channel?

Anyway - share with us your first RPG experience!

I've never really been an RPG player.. I was a straight RTS and Point and Click gamer many years ago..
My first real venture in to the RPG genre however was Final Fantasy VII... Anything before that and I probably spent no more than an half a hour on it. But since then my eyes have been opened and I've played many RPG's right through to the end.

I'm not a RPG gamer either, I think I've play less than 5 ever. Suikenden and Oblivion being the only one's that I actually remember. I was mainly a sports/racing type gamer as a teen, I have evolved though into trying more genres as I get older

Chrono Cross for the PS One. Great turn-based RPG, with similarities like Final Fantasy.

The first game I really got into was probably Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. That game is just amazing haha.

Fun Fact: Blue is the best game of the Pokemon Franchise. Creating another game was just overkill =P

Diablo 2, I guess. Although, I was like, 8 haha. It was a rather graphic game for my age
Runescape, I'll have to admit, is the single most addicting RPG of all time. So pointless/terrible though =P

My first RPG was TES: 3: Morrowind for the console. The graphics weren't that good, and the interface was clunky, but bethesda learned a lot about translating their games to the consoles that way (viva la Oblivion/Fallout 3), so you got to give them credit for that.

Same for me man. The first RPG that i can remember playing was super mario rpg: legend of the seven stars for the SNES. It was and still is a great favorite of mine. i downloaded an emulator just for that game. I still play it on a regular basis. I wouldn't say that its the BEST game to this day but it def deserves a spot in the rpg hall of fame since it pushed the snes to such a point that it rendered such a great game.

No listen to him very much, wow is addicting and can take over your life.....as an ex-wow gamer i can tell you its pointless to play in my opinion since you will work so hard to get those professor plums just to have it all replaced by quest and enemy dropped greens.....games should be able to be beaten, and if you can't beat a game than whats the point. You just keep playing and playing and doin the same 5 things over and over. Level, quest, raid, farm or pvp (which is never balanced)......it gets old fast.

I actually just realised that I hadn't played an RPG game up till when Oblivion came out. I always knew they were there but I wasn't enticed by the gameplay. There was just something about turn based combat that didn't make me want to give them the chance.

But I have started to play them more frequently now though.

I am going to have to retract my statement of super mario rpg being the first rpg i have played. The first rpg that i ever got my hands on was King's Quest V on the Tandy 2000.....released by radio shack in 1983, this hunk of computing power ran on MS-DOS and couldn't support MS or PC-DOS. Stick in the floppy and D:/blah blah blah. This game was great and ranged from trying to get some honey which was guarded by a bear. Which then is used to give to ants to help find a needle in a haystack. Another part i thought was awesome was the weeping willow part where you had to find her golden heart so she would stop crying. Only part i hated was when you were thrown into the desert and you had to find a way back. I either died from the heat countless times are a scorpion gets me. Now its time to find this game on the interwebz cuz i wanna play it.

Edit: Now that i downloaded and starting playing it...i find that its more of an action/adventure/puzzle game, but either way its a great game.

..Hmm I don't remember NOT playing RPG's.
but I guess Link for the NES and/or Final Fantasy1. Chrono trigger, Dragon quest and super mario RPG. all the really old Classics are what I remember playing don't know which one was my first though, I went back and played alot.

Shining Force on the Genesis awesome combat. You get full fields to battle in. It's disgaea meets warcraft.
