It's not like he was doing any perm damage, with 2 clicks his site history is vanished. I wonder if they know how easy it is to get rid of spam

Linux has been taking further action by banning know spam email sections and this has slowed but not detered spammers. This is why when I'm on you can see several members eating dust fairly quickly. lately mother russia has advanced her army with relatively large forces

Because Linux could just set a math question at the registration and that would stop all bots

Ha, a computer can't solve a math problem.

computer's can't read captcha images either or select two drop down items for birthday and fill in the third for the birth year.

we don't get any bots registering on the forum - usually bots won't be able to verify their account in their email. If bots do pass registration, they can't get past the email verification that easily since most bots would use fake emails to register.

What exactly do you mean by "Bot"?

scripts basically - sole purpose to sign up on sites and advertise automatically - works faster than humans

Ahhh, so nobody controls them?

yeah, there is always a controller - those people basically just tell the bots what forums to go on and sign up. like a list of forums.

Oh ok, cool. Sounds like a pain to the admins of those forums though.

yea. it's not hard to get rid of them - bots can't read captcha images - and certain forum softwares either don't have captcha or the admins just disabled them which is not a good idea - same goes for email verification.

we've dealt with them in the past when we were on YaBB software - smf helped and now vB makes it near impossible for bots to sign up - most of the spammers that we get are people with no lives getting paid a few cents to post and eventually get banned.

Okay, well thats good. It doesn't seem like there is a lot of spam either, so looks like everything and everyone has done a good job.
