After much thought and deliberation, I will not be entering any more SotW's on the simple fact that someone can make the ugliest sig of the week and still win.
It's obvious that the people voting are either talentless foolz, who aren't making or posting sigs and are voting on either bad-taste or on their friends, because I'll be the first to flat out admit if there's a good tie breaker in there -- or if someone deserved to win, and after seeing:
SOTW 71 Winner :: Exodyus - Gamers Forum (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=11724)
-- actually win, as well as other's that other people should have won, it's all bias crap or stupid people voting on "DuuuUUHHhh - PURDY CULORZ."
So. Excellent art to everyone. Happy Hunting, but I find no fun or personal gain in putting effort into art that cant ever win against stacked odds.

lol i might care if the whole thing was more... well if it was more serious.
but it's just a weekly thing that's kind of suffering at the moment anyways.
I'll enter if I ever get really motivated, I don't enter thinking I'll ever win, I don't enter thinking that it's not biased or right.
I just don't care to be honest.
I don't blame you though lol
I mean nothing's worse than entering something when you feel pressured or like the effort is useless.
amirite?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that half the voters are voting on going on subject matter, instead of skill and execution.

I know what you mean, Lem -- but my point is, I don't think I should have won that at all. Totally Knibblers win, based on talent and skill in the piece. The composition was perfect, flawless even. Colors were excellent.
Everything about the piece was on point. And yet my butt-wiped work passed? That's what we call a 'messed-up system'.
Well also -- if I knew I wasn't going to win based on the subject, but still entered to play, knowing everything would be fairly judged on talent -- then I'd still enter, knowing I might lose.
This is looking at all the signatures, and me - knowing who I would pick to win. And then watching the total opposite happen because of either bias or total ignorance.
This message is hidden because Jacob is on your ignore list.
STILL.

He's pissed about winning, because he feels that his piece was ****, compared to others.
I mean, there wasn't exactly a full hand to begin with, but i can see where you're coming from.
Still, as lemon stated, it's a gaming forum.
It's nothing serious biz, or anything.
And it's bound to happen, anywhere.

Maybe people just have different opinions? That doesn't necessarily make them biased... although that SOTW turned out different that I expected. I voted for Exo, because at that time, I felt it was the best. Now that I look at it, my vote may have been better sent toward someone else. But if I had a re-vote, it probably wouldn't be for knibbler (even though all of the sigs were nice). I'm not biased, I just voted for the sig that looked good to me. And I didn't know any of the characters/people except for the one I entered. Although there may be some members who vote for the ones you think are crap, they may think that they're good (whether or not they're wrong). Isn't that the point of the SOTW? The winner wins because people liked their sig. You can like it because of the skill it took, but others are allowed to like it for the colors even. Like everybody else said, it's a gaming forum... it isn't too serious. :eek1: But you can quit making sigs to enter if it really bothers you that you won with a "bad" sig. If you didn't deserve to win, maybe you shouldn't have entered at all. But more entries are nice...

Thank you for understanding, Riku.
Makes sense to another artist tho, right?
If someone else deserved, flat-out, to win -- I don't feel that it was an acceptable victory then.
That's like you have a race with ten people, and one of them is handicapped somehow. So you smoke them in the race, but everyone feels bad about the handicapped dude, so they give him the win.
Now he's pissed because he was SET on trying, KNOWING that he was handicapped and shouldn't have won. And feels weaker than he started and embarrassed.
I just think that we need to devise a better way for artists sake.
Cause some of them I put time and work into and have lost, to better sigs. Understandable.
Some of them I put time and work into, and lost to one as ugly as the [link above].
And this is the only one I have won, where I knew someone else should have won.
Knibs and JuCi taking the lead...
I dunno, man. It's just all jacked up.

Honestly I think it'd be cool if we could come up with a quick guide, showing users who may not know about sigs entirely, different areas to look at.
Composition, Use of colour, Use of space, Quality of render, etc etc
But I definitely know where you're coming from, it's just that I suppose I went into it expecting those results.
I care, just not that much <:

you're a hard man to please
This gave me an idea for the next SOTW - let's see if you like that idea later on, we'll most likely get the current sotw going this weekend and I'll work on setting the next one up as well over the weekend.
regarding this issue, as other's have said - people have different tastes - I thought you because you had the best bg and effects imo. you can't blame anyone else for having their own thoughts and opinions.
hopefully the next sotw will have some "unbiased" votes if all goes according to plan

I await your proposal, good sir.
And if you thought mine was the best, we need to sit down and have a gfx discussion with this lot of kids.
I think I was drugged that night or something. It'll teach me not to play with art and tequila, digitally, at the same time.

Well, I already quit actually trying to enter when I knew for a fact it was fixed.
So I know what you're saying.
I don't enter anymore- and when I do, I don't try.
Maybe when people vote for a actual signature over a paint-made signature, I'll start to enter again.
