Yes they did. With the release of the PS3 Slim, they went and changed the logo on everything. Including the original PS3 logo when you turn on the PS3 even if it is not a Slim... Very odd...

i liked it better on the side. it made the cases unique from all the other systems

there isn't nothing new about the logo, they just rounded off the corners.

Actually I don't mind this at all, looks pretty badass, but I don't really care since I don't have a PS3
