anyway, this morning, I log into AIM right? I begin talking with my friends, just chatting it up when SUDDENLY the program closed itself and it shut down my computer. I tried to turn it on and it went to the ENDLESS REBOOT OF THE BIOS. Perhaps WinXP Service Pack 3 was automatically installed in my computer.... OR the computer itself had some malware/spyware/etc.
The security program I currently use was McAfee and ... it failed me. man, I set the software to automatically scan DAILY for like 2-3 hours of each day. Anyway, I'm currently using a friend's laptop which is like 5 years old and pretty slow, but due to my neighbor's unprotected wi-fi, I got free net access. Anyway, sorry for the irrelevance but the point is....

what is another good messenger you guys use? Please tell me your recommendations, something that WONT crash on me and cause chaos to my computer. haha.

You can try out milian - it has aim, yahoo, msn, icq, and a few others all in one go. Not as resource consuming as the others separate and I've never had a problem with it in the past.

You could also use meebo on your browser, works just as well and you won't have to download anything.

I use Trillian astra. It's really nice and clean and supports basically every IM client there is. I've never had a problem with it.

I have to suggest pidgen its amazing.

But I don't really understand how aim would shut your PC down

I know Shixx and I use Raptr.

Raptr supports Steam IDs, Yahoo, AIM, AOL, ICQ, XBox Live IDs, PSN IDs, and other gaming messengers like XFire.

It's awesome and a great way to track progress, friends, and achievements. Plus it'll allow you to hook up with other gamers on their forums that are playing the same games as you.

So it updates each time I refresh the page? like your status? or do you have to change it yourself?

okay so now i'm using trillian and ...... its good so far, but... its asking me for a payment for a PRO version.. what's the difference???? Do I have to get it or... just stay on the free version??? I'm just using this as a substitute for AIM. and btw, my computer's fixed. woo hoo

The pro version is just for super duper things

you don't need it, I believe.
And I think you get the trillian pro as a trial right now, and in 30 days some of the features will go away. NOT SURE WHICH D :
there's so much to go through things are impossible to find lol

From the limited info you provided it is quite possible that aim is not the source of your hardships, however a hard drive failure could be your sugar daddy. The symptoms indicated definitely run parallel with that sort of failure. That would be my best guess...
