EA’s announced that Mass Effect 2 has sold over 2 million units during launch week.

It’s an outstanding achievement [no pun intended - JC] for a game which only launched in the US on Tuesday, and today in the UK and Europe.

Already, the game’s gotten fantastic scores and a meta of 96 on 360 and 95 for PC.

“Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010″, said BioWare boss Ray Muyzka. “We could not be more proud of the game’s universal acclaim and early commercial success.”

Go. And. Buy. It.

Wow, Mass Effect 2 is doing great. They did a great job of advertising the game, i know that. One question though... It's an rpg? I thought it was a shooter

It depends wot ur definition of rpg is rly mate, and has been a hotly-contested subject on a few ME2/DAO forums for a few months now. Imo the line is more blurred these days than in the days when virgins sat in the basement rolling dice .. now they sit upstairs in the warmth .. er .. this metaphor hasn't worked .. let's move on ..

Yes you're playing a role, and teh choices u make in the game (through conversations or your actions) define how your role progresses. But, the game isn't like dragon age in that you don't assign points to key attributes like strength, dexterity, agility and so on (something that the purists believe must be present in a 'true' rpg). The skill trees (if you can even call them that) are based around class abilities like they are in WoW for example .. with your base stats changing each time you level. Having said that though there's still some room for customisation in the way it works, as there is in a system like the one in WoW .. you can specialise .. so, depending on how elitist your thinking is will depend on how your class it. There's a fair amount of emphasis on research to upgrade yourself, as opposed to it being a core part of your characters.

Imo I'd call it an rpg shooter, along the lines of Deus Ex or more recently something like borderlands (altho to a lesser extent), and would even venture to suggest the closest comparison to it is actually the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series (in more than a few ways).

There's my thoughts anyways :)

It's nice to hear that Bioware is getting the revenue they need for the Kotar MMO. I have both DA: O and Mass Effect 2, and while on the whole I think DA: O is a stronger game, the Mass Effect series is definitly turning into a cult classic

Seeing there overlords are EA, having ME2 do great still might not help your hopes of a KOTAR MMO

...Actually, a Kotar MMO has already been started on and should be out by the summer.

Aww. I see. The way your other posts was written it came off as if Bioware needed ME2 to do great to do a KOTOR MMO. Clearly I've misinterpreted your post.

Im surprised actually, there was hardly a turn out at the midnight release where I live, nothing like MW2 for sure. But Im very happy to hear how popular it has been.

Highly unlikely, in fact. there's 0% chance it'll do that.
