View Full Version : Why do you listen to music, and does it motivate you?

I've thought about this for a while, seeing as I listen to the music that best reflects my current mood, thus feeding it even more. Probably not such a good thing, but it's become a force of habit now. So, that's why I listen to my music.

As far as motivation... yeah, pretty much motivates and drives me to excel and stoke the flames of whatever mood I may currently be in.

If you want to share, please do. Just thought I'd try something different.

well, music is entertaining. that's why i like listening to it. a lot of albums I listen to because they relax me and put me in a good place, but a lot of stuff I just listen to because its good.

Yeah when I'm on my PC and the music is not on it just feels empty and I love music. It doesn't really motivate me like other people, I just enjoy listening to it.

I like music because it deals with all the emotions i have
if I am angry I listen to a really angry song
if I am really sad i listen to a sad song
if I am really happy I listen to a happy song
and I think you get the point.

Huh, reasons a bit more spread out than I thought they'd be. Kewl. I seem to listen to hardcore/heavy metal when I'm mad and sad. Feels like something's being released or something along those lines.. hard to explain I guess.

I listen to music because what's the world without music? :>

Different kinds of music+songs can put you in such weird moods and they can be so varied and wonderful.
You get lost in your head and just let yourself go, it's like therapy.

The right kind of music can always motivate me : D
Helps me get things done.
Like I have cleaning music, cooking music, drawing music, reading music. etc etc etc :>

I like how you say it's like therapy, Lemon. Now that I think about it, it really is. (:

Plus the world wouldn't be as fun without music than with it. Well, certain things in the world anyway. lol Listening to more relaxing music might even help to help some people get tired if the listen to slow enough music. I do anyway, for some reason. :\

well, a lot of times I listen to music for atmosphere. If i'm feelin 80's, then i'll pop on some dokken or def leppard. if i'm feeling like I want to explore space or something, on goes pink floyd. I'm gonna start making music hopefully on keyboard and maybe some other instruments, based on different things that interest me, such as outer space, deep seas, early life (precambrian and cambrian eras) dinosaurs, the future (like, corny yet awesome sci fi stuff like at disney's epcot and tomorrowland)

basically music is a way to escape. Different songs take you different places.

Indeed it does.
I listen to music for lotsa different reasons. It can relax me, hype me up, put a smile on my face and give me that little push when i'm nervous. But when i'm angry or upset I need music to make it all better.
And I always listen to music when i'm drawing.

The Doors The End, theres some atmosphere for ya, the band starts scattering all over the place then pulls right back in line. been listening to that alot lately. been playing around with playlists with that songs feel, White Rabbit shows up then eventually gets into Pink floyd crazy diamond 1&2 ;)

we listen to music cuz we wanna trip off into that place, dont be surprised when Zeppelin winds you up in middle earth, or Rush takes ya to space

i like you. don't leave this forum. lol.

i've been listening to a lot of genesis lately, namely the "selling england by the pound" album, which takes you to an older version of england. right with the beginning lyrics of the title track of the album, and how he sings them "can you tell me where my country lies, said the uniform to his true loves eyes. it lies with me, cried the queen of maybe"

rush takes me to space with songs like cygnus x-1 and tom sawyer, but also takes me to a more nature-based place with the song Natural Science (my favorite by them)

haha yeah man, and i agree about nickelback lol. Never heard that song, i gotta get some cash and add to my cds genesis will definitely be in there. Progressive thats what i like, the songs just ever changing, no real rhyme yet it rhymes the music doesnt repeat over n over, elvis sung like that alot iv noticed.
But yeah the trees i believe is another more folkyish sort of song by Rush, some others too but idk i have their 2 disc greatest hits but never remember names so well. Rush is all about the Bass which i like, cant listen to music without the sub booming, altho in this house i usually gotta keep it off and keep it down, thats why i love summer and having a garage.

Your posts seem to have the same effect on me....

On a side note, I love Kaddisfly. I listen to them among other artists when I paint to give me a creative boost. It's the one thing that makes me want to actually work on my artwork without being grumpy about the mistakes I make. Buy Our Intentions; We'll Buy You a Unicorn is my favorite album of theirs.

My music feeds my mood too. Which can be a good thing.. or a bad thing... depending on my mood when I started listening.

I use it as motivation to work out.. so I guess it does motivate me.. but it also can cheer me up, help me vent, or just help me survive the day sometimes.
