Fable lll aims for 5m sales! Update from Video Games CV

The creative director of Microsoft Game Studios Peter Molyneux has stated that the publisher’s forthcoming Xbox 360 RPG Fable III needs to sell 5m copies to justify significant UI and gameplay changes.

Fable III has completely ditched the traditional HUD and simplify the controls as much as possible, with combat now handled with a single button.

The first Fable on the original Xbox sold 3m copies, with the Xbox 360 sequel shifting 3.5m units. A significant improvement on these numbers is needed to justify extreme design decisions.

I don't own an Xbox360 but have played Fable & Fable ll and thought it was totally awesome, I hope the changes that have been made are not to major.

Will Fable lll hit the 5m sales what do you think?

haha awesome, u can pick them up fairly cheap now and they dont sell out at the stores. I went to 6 stores yesturday to buy a ps3 and they all were out. I was not a happy camper lol. Hope all is well

Well as of March 2009, Fable 2 was at 2.6 million. So at best it's around 3 to 3.2 ww now.

I don't see how one could come to the conclusion that 3 is going to magically sell 66% more than the best selling iteration and nearly as much as the entire franchise combined. It's seems to me the trend is set and the market is set for the Fable, of course they could grow this market, but 66%..this I very much doubt.

I probably wont buy it, not after their last game. And they tried that whole button simplification thing before on the 2nd one I thought. They want to limit it even more for some reason? Bring back the old magic system then I might be interested.

As far as I'm concerned that game studio is on my black list for releasing the 2nd one with so many bugs. I wont trust anything they make till its been out a while, and then I will probably borrow it.

After Fable 2, I don't think as many people are going to be buying 3. Most people will just be like "the last one sucked so i don't care anymore"
