Square Enix recently announced, via press release, that they are partnering with Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment to bring us a new action-RPG, Dungeon Siege 3. Square Enix is quick to point out that this partnership represents their continuing commitment to work with Western developers to increase their presence in that market.

The game itself is being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC and is the series’ first endeavor into the current console cycle. In addition to being in HD for the first time, the upcoming title will also feature a new co-op mode for you to enjoy with friends.

In a nice little additional tidbit of news, it seems that Obsidian has been getting help on the game from the original developer of the series, Chris Taylor, and his studio Gas Powered Games. Pretty cool to see a collaboration between the series’ creator and the new developers, no? Check out the full description of the game from the press release below and be sure to check out the new screens right here.

Story

Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb’s powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and fearsome weapons.

Dungeon Siege 3 seamlessly blends intuitive action gameplay, a robust RPG system featuring a large selection of abilities, an extensive multiplayer component and the depth of story Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment are known for creating.

Features

• For the first time, play Dungeon Siege on high-def consoles
• Players will be able to adventure by themselves or with friends in co-op multiplayer

• Recruit companions with unique personalities, abilities and views on the world around them

I'm not going to go into an in depth review, but I was just discussing this at rather incredible length with my roommate. I was a HUGE fan of the first and I played the second although it didn't live up to the first as well. I'm glad they've got Steam Power Games working more closely with this one - it was their design that gave DS1 a unique character development mechanic that made DS1 such a special game to me (and others, I think.)

This might be fun, I guess, but if DS1's simple experience and leveling system isn't at the core of it it's not going to have that charm that DS holds for me. I'm gonna force myself to stop before I write an essay of details nobody will want to take the time to read...

I'll believe it when I see it..

However I've never been a fan of the dungeon siege games, but this one here seems really good.. I don't know, I just got a feeling this game will be good.. as in dragon age good.
