EDIT: Here, I made it ^^ I did the sprite on paint and then did the rest in Photoshop. It's just a test, so I threw some random effects and done xD

The shadow is actually an outter glow effect :P Because, some renders, are really hard to render and of course there are some parts that you can't do much about, like the original outline of the character. To solve that, I put a bit of black outter glow and if that doesn't solves the prob, I use some black inner glow too. But with very low opacity like: Outter glow : 50 % l Inner glow : 25 %
