Hi guys Evan here and this is part 1 of my 5 part guide through gimp! "Beginning our journey"! OK! So I have noticed that quite a few users on here want to get into graphics! Which is great, but they seem a bit lost on the basics, like what software to get. Well the best free software to get is GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program (http://www.gimp.org/), but for a full list of softwares there is a sticky on this forum.

Alright so now im guessing that you have got gimp and you know how to use some REALLY basic stuff, but if not here is a tutorial; GIMP Tutorials - Tips and Tutorials for Learning The GIMP (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/gimptutorials/GIMP_Tutorials_Learning_The_GIMP.htm)

So lets get some brushes, as brushes will be the baseline of most/all your sigs for now. Here some great brushes for GIMP- all sites are respected virus-free, cost-free and copyright-free.

Grunge brushes- For all sigs, great effect and they are used in most sigs

Interhuss Designs New Doodle Gimp Brushes (http://interhuss.com/2009/01/18/new-doodle-gimp-brushes/)

Ok now we have brushes we will need some renders! The best place is Planet Renders v4.1 (http://planetrenders.net/) but make sure that you sign up before using the images because otherwise they won't have a transparent background!

Ok now you are set! In the next guide I will be posting some tutorials and other great stuff! Buts for now just play around and test some stuff!
Last but not least here is some work done on GIMP~ At the end of these guides hopefully we will get here:

Part 2 of my guide! "Novice Lane"! In this part I will be posting some great easy tutorials made by me and other people, there will also be some links to other superb stuff like fonts! Ok lets get started!

First up lets get some fonts! Now fonts are a great effect and can make or break a whole signature! The first link is to the best website for any font.

dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/)

Some fonts I have picked up along the way

Slant Font | dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/slant.font)
Rezland Font | dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/rezland.font)
Paola Font | dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/paola.font)
Aristotle Punk Font | dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/aristotle-punk.font)
Capture it Font | dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/capture-it.font)

And this is the best text tutorial around, just use the first part if you are a novice but if you feel like challenging yourself use it all

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a thread ALL about Graphics including GIMP. You should have made a post there with these, and they would put it on the first post.

I really like this one.

But if you can post about Photoshop, it will be better cause I don't use GIMP.

seems like a reasonable suggestion, especially as it's something that will make a good reference for current and future gfx people using Gimp .. consider it stuck!

P.s. For the others in this thread don't be 'too' discouraging simply because this isn't for the graphics package you use .. you could always start your own thread and request that other users share their resources as part of it. Gimp isn't the beginning and the end for gfx programs after all.

This is a great tutorial because GIMP isn't as easy as some people make it seem.
