Hello and welcome! Please, take a seat and prepare yourself for...
The Gamers-Forum IRC Trivia Night! Round 2!
Coming to an intertube near you on Janurary the 23rd at 5pm EST!
win 500 GFP!
I'm your proud (co-)host for this upcoming event. On the fateful night of the 23rd intellectuals, dorks, pop culture enthusiasts, and gamers alike will engage in a gripping battle of wit and knowledge for the grand prize of 500GFP. If you want to participate in the event, all you have to do is post in this thread saying so and log into the Gamers-Forum IRC channel on the 23rd a little before 5pm.
If you're interested in participating, you'll need to read the rules below to know how we're running the show. For those of you that were at the first IRC trivia night you'll notice discrete differences in how we're running the event - if this is your first or second time you should read the rules in their entierty, regardless.
Questions will be selected from five categories. Four of the categories will have questions of varying difficulty. There will be a 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 point question for each of these categorys (the 5 pointer being the most difficult question and the 1 pointer being the easiest question.) The fifth category will be a collection of miscellaneous questions of equal difficulty that are worth 2 points each.
The winner of the IRC Trivia night gets to pick what one of the categories will be on the next trivia night. Leica, who won our last trivia night, chose the category "Operating Systems." The five categories for this trivia night will be Operating Systems, Gaming, Astronomy, Music, and Miscellaneous.
I will ask questions in the IRC Channel and answers should be /msg'd to me. I will accept answers for fifteen seconds following the timestamp on my message containing the question. Any answers /msg'd to me after that timeframe will not be counted. Any messages posted publicly in the IRC Channel (#gamers-forum) will not be counted. Everyone gets one answer - the first /msg I recieve from someone counts as their one and only answer. Any other answers or messages I recieve after the first do not count.
Everyone that /msg's me the correct answer gets the points from that question. The first correct response I get will be awarded a bonus point. I will determine who had the first response based on which message my client recieved first.
When we are going to write the next question there will be an announcement in the IRC channel that the next question is coming. We anticipate that there will be some chatting in the channel but ask that when the announcement is made for the next question that people quiet down so that the question, when posted, wont be flooded out by other messages. If it becomes absolutely necesary, we will moderate the channel and remove voice from those who are making it difficult to run the game.
After the 15 seconds for the question have passed, I'll announce the answer in the IRC channel. I will not respond to anybody's /msg's - trust that I got and counted your answer. After all the questions have been asked, I will post everyone's scores and announce the winner. The winner will soon after recieve their 500GFP and be contacted to select a category for the next trivia night.
I look forward to seeing you all on the 23rd!
