I've never heard of grey rep. Maybe linux can answer your question.

I got that before.
I think its when you get rep from someone with no rep power?

or something lol

a rep that counts for nothing? Boo!

lemon is closest. It's usually from someone new. 0 Rep power. Doesn't affect rep either way.

Yea, that's what i was thinking. If that user gets more rep power does it start to count for something?

That gray rep won't change, it'll still be 0. If the user gives you more rep in the future when he gets power, then those will count for something.

I believe that someone with negative rep also has a rep power of 0, so if you get repped by someone with a red bar you'll see it show up as a grey bar, too. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Linux!)

That'd be cool if, when somebody with a red bar gives you negative rep, it actually gives you positive. xD

Well...no. Reputation level and reputation power are separate.

Curious.. I coulda sworn this happened to me but it was a long time ago and I can't dig back for evidence of it. I'll take your word that it isn't the case, you would know better than anyone else here ;)

If that happened to you, then the explanation I have is that the user who had negative rep was also a new user who did something bad to get the negative rep but hasn't been a member long enough to gather any rep power.
