So, after finding my Myth: The Fallen Lords cd, I began looking for my copy of myth II.

To my dispare I could not locate it. So I went online to see if the game had been officially been released free (there is a large and active fan base to the series).

While I was doing this, I made a few surprising discoveries about Bungies game history. While I was a always a fan of the Myth series it didnt occure to me that one of my favorite classic games (Oni) was actually developed by Bungie west and published by a group that included Rockstar.

The Rockstar logo is on the cover here (for years I had assumed this was a rockstar game):

Never heard of this game before? Well watch some of this video. Its a multi platform game but I played it on the PS2 first:

After some time Bungie struck gold with halo. I wasnt a huge fan of the Halo series, mostly because of the zealots who where sure it was the best series ever, most not even being real gaming enthusiasts. But one good thing to come from the years of slavering fanboys foaming at the mouth was its popularity, and relatively easy gameplay, really managed to opened the doors for a lot more casual gamers.

And they have also broke ground on a lot of original game concepts. After researching their background a little more I'm actually really excited to see what they will be doing, now that they dont have to work on the Halo series. A revamp of any number of their former titles would probably do well. But Im hoping to see them continue to be innovative.

Since there isn't much I can say to the rest of your post, as it's all information, or most of it at least.. Bungie seemed to jump all over the place in the beginning. From Myst, to Oni, then Halo being an RTS and then changed to an FPS before Combat Evolved launched.

That said, I actually hope they don't revisit any of their old IPs. I think that the industry as a whole needs to start making some new games instead of making sequel after sequel or in Call of Duty and the now-dead Guitar Hero franchises' case, small tune ups.

That said, I guess they are working on a new IP of some sort. They announced they were when they said they partnered with Activision as their publisher.

Activision Blizzard or just Activision? Those are big names teaming up.

Anyways, yeah I guess I made this thread because after looking at their past projects and seeing them move on from Halo they are now one of my favorite developers.

Activision Blizzard. The rarity of it is, the IP will belong to Bungie, not the publisher.

I figured they would be looking for more independence after microsoft. If you know anything about bungie they are very casual in their work environment. I can see how a lot of independence would work well for them, and either way both sides stand to profit so it makes sense from a business perspective.

It says a lot about a developer when they choose to set the terms and still have their pick of publishers, Activision Blizard is about the biggest name I can think of for them to work with next to Sony.
