I am now going to quiz you all, and test your detective skills.

I have forgotten the name of a song, and the name of the band who perform the song..
Re-discovered it, as it was being played at the end of an NBA game between my beloved Celtics and the 76ers. The next catch is, I only know the tune for it ;)

The intro to this song is pretty much lead guitar only, with single-string hits at each bar. The tone is pretty whiney and muddy/fuzzy, with a funky edge with light string bending at the end of each single note; here's my best text representation..

To help out a bit, I'll simply note down L (Low), M (Medium), H (High) & Hst (Highest) for the pitch of the notes, just for a rough help with the scale.

(L) Dum - (M) Dum - (H) Dummmmmm.. (H) Du - (M) Dummmmmm.. (M) Du - (H) Dummmmmm, (H) Da - (Hst) Dummmmmmm (repeat a couple of times until it kicks in)

Make sure (if you're not tone deaf) to keep the same tone for each repeated L, M or H, to help you more with your guess!

If you have any ideas, then post YouTube links or general song names to me in this thread, I will be eternally grateful and I will love you forever! <3

Thank you!

Definitely not that, I'd be able to smell that song's awesomeness before it was even played ;)

Take notice of the length of the dum's (lolol) and the tone guide I tagged the dum's with, it wouldn't make sense with Smoke on the Water. My song is a different pattern and tone order compared. Smoke On The Water is: Dum Dum Dummmm, Dum Dum Du Dummmmmmmmmm, as opposed to my song in question's pattern :)

Good try though.

upload a clip of you humming the tune, otherwise this is pretty much impossible XD

edit: aren't you a musician? can't you at least give us what notes they are?

this thread makes me laugh

...but I must participate

what are the pitch intervals between the notes/their note names? Can you dictate the rhythm by conventional standards instead of an ambiguous series of "dum dum dummmms"?

I have to agree with muffin. Video of you humming it would help the most.

edit: also, the name of the nba game might help

I rofled when I saw this thread. But as the other said it would be easier if we know how it sounds and if you got any info at all of the song it would be helpful.

I'm proud of myself, and you! :D
Thanks again man! <3 <3 <3

It wasn't a video game, it was an actual game on the tele irl, between Celtics and 76ers last night!

Also Muffin, I am a musician indeed :P But not everyone is on the forums, so I wanted to keep it basic :)

Thanks all for trying!
