Just in case you're like me, and don't own the new Black Ops DLC (Call of the Dead), A7X did a song for it, and it's pretty good!

It was routine A7X stuff, to put it in my nutshell.

Sounds sick, good find. I love this band, and it's a sweet new song they've pushed out :D

I used to be a big fan of A7x, but with each new album IMO they get a little bit less impressive and gain a lot more fans. So many people went crazy over Nightmare, which I thought was good but not fantastic. Lots of more radio songs like Nightmare and So Far Away, and Welcome to the Family always felt like a sorta mediocre song with a good chorus tacked on so people would want to listen to it...to me they've dropped in quality since City of Evil, yet their popularity skyrocketed. It kinda makes me not wanna listen to them as much to see them going mainstream. And no, this isn't even a case of like with metallica where people are like zomg sellout i refuze to listen durr. I mean, they've gotten a lot more radio-friendly (putting an obvious F bomb as the centerpiece of the chorus of your lead single does not prevent you from being radio friendly) but not to the point of sellouts. It's just that it seems like everybody on earth listens to them now, and not even their good stuff.

It is annoying when so many people like A7X now because of their new stuff, when they haven't heard their older material. Thing is though, Shadows and the band did say, years and years ago, that they would progressively change and get softer; it was the plan all along.

That bugs me a lot. When I heard of the band, the first album I listened to was Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, and it remains to be my favorite album. I know a lot of people that can't name 3 songs off of City of Evil, or didn't know the album existed, yet they are "diehard fans" of the band. But it's kinda funny playing a song by them sometimes, and you hear the "Nope haven't heard of the album, is it a new one?!?" and just going with it.

after ST7T he said he wanted to make a record that was half singing and half screaming, and then a record with all singing. I liked City of Evil a lot, A7X was alright, but idk. Nightmare just got really old really fast, i can't listen to anything from it anymore, and nowadays people are like omg a7x are so good and they've been listening to em for a year. I got into em in mid 06 and I still listen to their first 3, but I can barely listen to Nightmare. I don't mind their clean singing sound, but the songs were still good. Compare Seize the Day, a ballad from their first "sung" album to So Far Away, the ballad from nightmare. Seize the day is way better (unless for some reason somebody likes so far away more..)(note i haven't seen the so far away video, but i've heard it's good)

I personally think seize the day is of much higher quality than So Far Away while still being very accessible, while also having a bit more staying power. Nightmare got old real quick, the only song from city that got old for me is beast and the harlot (which, ironically, was the only song from city of evil that they played when i saw them)
funny story. my first girlfriend I dated in late 06 (we started dating the tuesday before thanksgiving) and a few days in I thought maybe we shouldn't date, cuz she was only 13 at the time and i was 16, so i ended it and then i was really sad so i just sat on the floor and listened to seize the day on repeat for an hour til she got back on aim lol.
anyways...this is just my personal ramblings, not trying to convince anybody of anything

When these people can't name at least three songs off the City of Evil album, then you know they're an ass-hat!

Personal ramblings that are full of good points, though!
I got into A7X back in the first half of 2005! I know this because it was just before BF2 came out, and it used to be my game music pretty much constantly! I feared that if I listened to them too much that I would get sick of them... but that wasn't the case at all! I got a hold of every bit of their material that I could get my hands on, in order of the year they were released in, so I could appreciate everything they have recorded :)
But that's what I do with most bands, it's the logical thing to do!

I used to go on like limewire or whatever and download all the songs that had interesting names by the band and those were the ones i knew. It was cool cuz there was always more to discover about the band, and I got a nice taste of all eras of the band instead of only hearing 1 chapter of the band (by getting 1 album)
however, for A7X somebody sent me a zip file with both city of evil and waking the fallen in it, and then later sent me one with 7th trumpet in it and he was like LISTEN TO THEM. and I didn't like it, but eventually I got hooked on Unholy Confessions and that led to me becoming a fan

Unholy Confessions, what an amazing song! First ever A7X song that I learnt to play on guitar!
I'm gunna give Nightmare another listen now, I've not given it much time as it didn't grab me like the other albums did.
Having said that... I'm also going to give the EndGame album another listen to, as well. Even though it sounds like Rise Against, I don't think it has bettered previous albums, at all... makes me sad.

I really liked Funeral For A Friend's new album, Welcome Home Armageddon, but FFAF aren't everybody's taste. I have also heard that The Strokes' new album is really good.

I listened to a few songs from the new FFaF and really only cared for Damned if you do dead if you don't.

Good song, good song. Also, Front Row Seats to the End of the World and Old Hymns are great songs.

Epic song indeed. Streetcar is my favourite by them, though.

So...at first I really liked the song owls are watching...but every time i listened to it i liked it less and less..
I feel like Bullet For My Valentine and Escape the Fate are going down the same path as A7X, except their changes to the mainstream weren't as drastic. Waking the Fallen felt really polished (in a good way) and then City came out and it was really gritty and no screaming, it's a very sudden change, but I think it worked well for them. Other bands just sorta slowly phase out the screaming

Bullet For My Valentine
I used to love them, now I don't; I just love their old stuff. Their lyrics suck now, to the point where I cringe, and I dunno... just all sounds a bit... boring.

the lyrics are pretty bad "LOL U DUN GIVE ME PLEZURE JUST PAIN" but what you said is about how i feel about A7X now. It just sounds...eh. Kinda plain. I remember when Nightmare released as a single (before the album) i had all of Waking the Fallen on my computer, and that song. And WTF would always end and Nightmare would come on and it was so bland in comparison.
edit: to make things worse, bullet's setlists nowadays are mostly from fever and scream aim fire. 2 songs from the poison, and they always play hand of blood. They didn't even play All These Things I Hate.

BFMV have lost it, and I haven't listened to all of their latest songs because listening to their singles was enough for me; disappointment.
But yeah, in regards to A7X, I know what you mean... it is disappointing, and when I gave Nightmare another listen to last night, I could only honestly say that there were two, maybe three songs at a push that were really good.

You're quite right, I've never heard this one before!
Another case of disappointment: Linkin Park.

Alone, Begging for Mercy, and bittersweet memories are the only songs I enjoyed from the new album. Last Fight had good music but the lyrics were awkward. Anyways, I've always preferred the melodic side of Linkin Park, so I enjoyed what i've heard of the 2 newest ones (though I haven't heard much more than the singles)

It's nothing outstanding. Their new songs aren't anywhere near as good as their heavier stuff, nor is it any better or as good as their older melodic stuff.

well, from minutes I heard bleed it out and what i've done, both of which I enjoyed. From the new one I heard The Catalyst, Waiting for the end, Iridescent, and Wretches & Kinds, all of which I enjoyed. Not as good as Numb, In the End, Faint, or anything, but I enjoy them all more than One Step Closer or A Place For My Head. Numb is my absolute favorite LP song

See, I'm more of a fan of their heavier stuff, which is probably why I'm so disappointed in their new material. Don't get me wrong though, I don't think that their new material is gash, not by any stretch - I just didn't get the good old LP vibe from the new stuff.

Yea..I like stuff like Papercut and all that, but stuff like in the end and numb, which had more melody and atmosphere was always my favorite.

In The End was the first ever song I had heard from LP, back when I was in my first year at high school, a long time ago, and I instantly fell in love with the band.
In my opinion though, Foo Fighters - Wasting Light is the best album of the year so far, however that is purely my opinion, and it's based on what I have heard from other bands.

Idk, i'm not really into Foo Fighters...I liked em at one point but once their new album came out I got sick of hearin about em all the time.
So far, there haven't been any albums i thoroughly enjoyed. Most of em I like a song here and there from. I guess the new BTBAM EP is really good, but it's just an ep that's an extreme acquired taste, and the middle song is kinda bleh..not as good as the other 2
