Yay or Nay?

Nay.

I can build a better PC than the Alienware systems for way cheaper. When you buy an Alienware system, you're paying for the brand, just like you do when you buy an expensive piece of clothing.

For example, you can get something so much better looking than an item you see in the Fred Perry or Ralph Lauren store, and it will be cheaper because it doesn't have the Fred Perry or Ralph Lauren logo on it.

I agree with Jayhmmz, my computer has not a single thing by alienware, and I do everything I ever needed for my computer, for a cheaper price.
Came up to 1100 dollars, could have been alot more...

AAaaallll of this. Was looking at buying one, but think I'm gonna figure out how to build my own. I know a guy that'll do it for me after I get the parts I need, just need to scrounge up the cash eventually.

The price of them is totally extortionate if you ask me, I have never been interested in anything over priced like that :S

I heard that when dell bought out Alienware they started using cheaper parts or some crap like that.

Since Dell bought it the quality has gone down. I myself have an M17x, but that's because I'd rather have a laptop than a desktop (my old laptop was a piece of crap and my mom uses my old desktop, but I take my computer to class with me) and it was worth the money, I suppose, but it was still quite a bit ($2k something.)

a self built pc could have the same performance for a fraction of the cost.....way way way overpriced

I agree - way overpriced! But aren't most branded products, look at trainers or clothing! You can get the same t-shirt without a "branded" logo for 1/10 of the price...

Awesome, but WAY overpriced but so pretty :P .... my laptop was $1600, the alienware equivalent was $3000 >_<

Exactly lol But again, they are so pretty :P Had I had that extra $1400 just sitting around I have a feeling I would have bought that big alien head :D

never bought alienware and never will, just because I am a cheap bastard.

Custom builds can look just as pretty, prettier in fact. Take a look at some of NZXT's cases, the Phantom line in particular. It's smexeh

Everyone else has pretty much summed up my thoughts on Alienware: Ridiculously overpriced and I prefer to build my own.

Overpriced but they're still pretty kickass.

never had an alienware... But its so easy to fall in love with.. esp the m17x i mean its expensive because of the brand and the bling.. a gaming laptop fanboy like me could fall for its charms easily.. Plus i dont know how to build a computer.. so yeah.. :/

You are buying the alienware brand though, which is meaningful to some people, in general though its pretty easy to get more power for your money building yourself.
