What other specs are you looking for? Like screen size, hard drive size, preference on memory amount.

You should be able to get a decent one with that budget.

Just stay away from Dell.

here is a sony Vaio, $879, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, 5hr battery life, intel i7 cpu. Very strong and definitely will allow you to do a lot more than just schoolwork:

Newegg.com - SONY VAIO F Series VPCF22KFXRW NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127453)

Here is another Vaio with a smaller screen and i3 processor, $629:

Newegg.com - SONY VAIO EH Series VPCEH12FXRW Intel HD Graphics 3000 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127506)

Here is a toshiba with similar specs but a weaker CPU, it's a different version of what I have. The one I have is sold out. This one is $499.

Newegg.com - TOSHIBA Satellite L755-S5242 Notebook Intel Pentium B940 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214403)

Here is a Lenovo Ideapad, $699. similar specs as above, but has an i5 CPU:

Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad Z570 RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246156)

No problem :) if you don't like any of those or would like something more specific, let me know.

You should also look through the links and see the actual details of the hardware. Some might interest you more than others. I only posted a few of the many details that you'll find on the actual page.

I'm a fan of Asus, don't wanna complicate your decision, but here's one to compare with the higher end Vaio:

Newegg.com - ASUS N53 Series N53SV-B1 NoteBook Intel Core i5 2410M 6GB Memory DDR3 1333 640GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230077)

Brief pro/con comparison of the differences to the Vaio:

Pros:
2 GB more RAM (memory)
Better GPU
Bigger HDD
Blu-Ray

Cons:
Slightly smaller screen
Weaker CPU
No info on battery life, maybe google would turn up something.
$20 more in price

Other than that the two are pretty much identical in specs. Both are great deals and you can't go wrong either way.

If you were looking at the lower end Vaio you can ignore this post :P
