Hey everyone I'm wondering what everyone's favorite videogame genre is.
I myself enjoy RTS games because I love micromanaging. Nothing is more satisfying than developing strategies and balancing out economy and military.
Please post what your favorite genre is and what you find satisfying about it.

I like a good balance of different genres, sometimes i'm in the mood for things, but my least favorite tends to be sports games, followed by shooters, and my favorites tend to be RTS when i'm playing PC games or RPGs on consoles and handhelds. Those 2 styles of game I tend to get the most playtime out of. Shooters are too repetitive for me...the entire time you're doing nothing but shooting monsters. RPGS I like because sometimes you're walking around town, other times you're going through a dungeon, and theres lots of story here and there to break up the action so you can just sit back and relax.

Same here. Which is actually normally what screws me if Im playing RTS's against others.... I love to build up my base, and my friends know this. So instead of building everything up they just come and attack me first thing cause they know I wont be ready -__-
But yea, I honestly don't have a favorite. I'd have to say overall, if I -had- to pick, RPG's tend to be my most played and sports my least. Sometimes I like playing a good game with substance and story... sometimes I like playing a game where I need strategy and sometimes I just feel like playing a good ole hack n slash. I'm fairly open minded when it comes to gaming, regardless of genre. I used to hate FPS's and wouldn't play them, but when I gave them a chance again I actually ended up loving them. So now I'll try anything once before assuming I hate it (except sports and/or racing games xD )

Its the same to me about RTS games, I mostly build up my base "VERY slowly" and end up with a few guys facing an army(except in generals, there I accually beat people)
dependable of my mood I like different things. If I just want to play and not think I just play a normal and easy fps, if I want a challenge I play either a tactical fps or a rts. I play rpg now and then dependable of witch games I got. I barely play any sports games, and if I do play some its mostly racing games lik forza 3,

I love a mix of games these days. But if I had to state one it would be racing sims and adventure type games, Zelda types.. Anyone who has read some of my other posts will know that I have a weakness for the Lego games (have they a genre?).
My least favourite were fps's, only because I was crap much improved since I've played a few.

Shooter and games like Fallout and Oblivion are my favorites. Also strategy role-playing types like Dungeon Siege II, not sure if Zelda would fall under this...
Sport games are my least favorite, they bore me for some reason. However the only sport game I do like is this Football game for Playstation, I think its called Blitz or something. D:

Definite RTS. I love the feeling of being a God, or "The Creator" And Commanding my Armies while watching the event unfold from birds-eye. Then I love having to out smart or Out wit my Opponents. By sending a Under Managed team to their Base so they think I Defenceless. so they attack my base. only to find the pure Wraith of my Army lying in wait. then I use them to Destroy the enemy :D
RPG/Open worlds/FPS
(Anything similar to Fallout or STALKER)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was such a great game. I loves playing on the highest difficulty because it was actually a huge challenge and still tons of fun.

My favorite is the old style of Rainbow Six where there was more emphasis on tactics and less on action. Id love to see more of that instead of all this guns blazing stuff that is all over fps...

Compared to the old rainbow six the new ones are quite bad games in my opinion. They switched from a great game of tactics and stealth (a little hard to stay stealthy) to a stock fps. If I want to go spray bullets at everything I'll play saints row.

I hear ya on that. Even Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid are straying towards action

I love RPG's (Gothic 1-4, for eg.), FPS's and MMORPG. But it also depend on mood wich game I will play. For now I'm playing only League of Legends and sometimes WoW and COD4.

I've found that a lot of the old games were better as already said with rainbow six & splinter cell. Game makers make what they think the gamer wants and not what he/she actually wants. I'm just pleased that some of the oldies are now being converted to the PS3 platform from the trusty PS2 versions. This in itself shows that game makers are not sure what they are doing when they repackage old but very popular games.

There are quite a few amazing older games. They were the ones with the original ideas and they usually focused more on story, depth of gameplay, etc. than todays games do. Todays games like to have the best graphics, the flashiest gameplay, the best cinematics. It takes away from the gaming experience in my opinion. Sure sometimes I like to run around and slaughter hordes of enemies with my machine gun or chainsaw, but usually I want more depth. Even today's RPGs don't seem as in depth, like baldurs gate was. I am starting a thread on this :).

It really depends on my mood. It's really close between Shooters and RPG's. I guess if you had a gun to my head then I'd pick shooters, main reason is the online play.

It's too hard to choose a favorite genre for me. I really like a good mix of everything, I tend to hop around from game to game a lot, which could be why it takes me so long to finish them...

There are a few sub categories to better say what genre is my favorite but it's quite obvious what games I like. RPG though I prefer turn-based old school jRPGs and Tactical RPGs, Western RPGs have been growing on me too. This whole action-based jRPG crap is starting to get on my nerves. It's like they are wanting to take out making things turn-based so they can seem more.. modern? I'm looking to see new jRPGs that have the turn-based formula.

Sometimes I like turn-based RPGs. They can be a nice break from fast pace action. but usually I'm into semi-turn-based or real time.

Personally RTS/Strategy/MMORPG
Interacting with people is about as good as it gets.
And those 3 are great for that.
