BLizzard announced at Blizzcon their next expansion pack coming out: Mists of Pandaria.

I really don't know what to think about it, or if I'll come back to WoW to play it

Yea, and they also announced that D3 would be given... FOR FREE... to everyone with a current, up to date WoW account. And I *JUST* cancelled mine. *grumbles* >:(

Does it still have time on it? If you were using a credit card for it and say that you can still play on it till the 29th or something, it's still active until you get the "Must add prepaid time or use a credit card for more playtime" message. You may still get Diablo 3, ma'am. That really blows. I was thinking about buying a 2 month card last week too :V

I don't think I'll be getting into this expansion though, sadly. I think that WoW may be finally done for me, after 2 hacked accounts and 5 years of playing.

That, and after Illidan ruling the Outland, The Lich King returning, and Deathwing raising hell across Azeroth, I dunno how seriously I can take the Panda people xD This is definitely an expansion for all the lore hounds, but I'm not into all of that so much..it's sad to think I don't really wanna play it anymore since it's been so much fun for me.

I got the must use credit card msg :( But there's no release date yet and since it's been 10 years, I dont expect it to be anytime soon lol So the $15/mo Im saving by not playing is well over what the cost of what D3 will be. Just figures, thats totally my luck haha

But yea, I think Im done as well. Even though I know nothing about WoW lore, despite the fact that I played for years lol, I think the Panda's are gonna be uber cute! :P And Monk as new class? Pretty lame, imo. *shrugs* I think they've just gone as far as they can, sadly... It was awesome for me while it lasted but all good things must come to an end I suppose...

I was hoping they'd have kept Cataclysm, with big patches for new classes, races, areas and dungeons, and just integrated them into the game and story where it was. Yeah kill Deathwing, but there's no need to pay another $40 every year for all of this. Can't wait till the level cap hits 100+, that'll be a sh** storm for sure.

Warcraft has gotten old. When is the Starcraft MMO coming out! Only reason Warcraft got the deal was because Warcraft 3 came out and the funding for SC: Ghost was cut.

I wouldn't say that they've gotten old. Cataclysm brought the life back in the game, and I had fun at end-game and levelling through it. I don't think it got big with 3....3 pushed it for sure, but 2 was huge.

I'd have preferred Warcraft 3/WoW over SC:Ghost from what I've looked into it, but that's me personally. If both could have existed, that would be awesome too. Starcraft MMO is the most talked about Blizz project over the years I'm sure, and it may never come at all. It still should though lol.

Starcraft had more hype than Warcraft until Warcraft 3 came out. That's why they were originally going to make Starcraft: Ghost. I still prefer Starcraft. I will miss not being able to play Ghost or a SC MMO. Q_Q

Well I don't really know what to think. I'm a veteran WoW player and I've seen a lot in this game. All of the dungeons I was playing was really fun and I really enjoyed them. But... Pandas? In few next expansions they probally gonna release a Doggy Race or a Kitten. I think Blizzard is running out of ideas and they are making a game for kids that watched Kung Fu Panda and they wanna play it in some game. I'll not be suprised when I gonna see a new WoW mount: A Pony!. Yeah this pink one. Still I hope they gonna do some great PVP. I'm also worried about this new Talent system. In cataclysm this system was not so good and they are changing it again. Hope for good. Level cap raised to 90. Well that's not a surprise. They always are doing it. But I'm just curious how much HP and MP characters will have :D. Still new world can be very nice! I must think about it. Maybe I'll come back to wow to play it and see how things are going.

I'm waiting for more infos from Blizz. For now I think it's pretty good because I don't mind seeing pandas. But they could create something more dark.

I must admit, I am a WoW whore and cannot get oenough of it. I was therfore rather hesitant when I caught the new trailer for MoP. At first I was dead against the idea of Po and friends as it looked to childish for my liking (I am a lore fiend). I understand that WoW has had Panderin since Warcraft 3 but they are really just a jokey side attraction. I am down for beta testing the MoP and I am prepared to withhold my judgement till then, but it is not looking good from the releases I have seen. The new talent system is shocking and I hope not a final decision. It is yet another way to dumb down the game for braindead idiots to not struggle.

I don't see how they're dumbing down the game. They improve it for casual players and new re-rolls for sure, but it's not dumbed down. Imagine going 1-90 with the exp rates the same as they were at vanilla, TBC and wrath drop. You'd die. It would take absolutely forever. They improve the levelling rate to hit end game content.

The new talent tree re-working will make the game a million times better. There's literally thousands less combinations, but as of right now, everybody raiding or PVP is sticking to the same 2 or 3 builds that are viable to their spec. There's only about 3 specs that work effectively with DW Frost DK DPS. With the new re-works, you choose a specific skill or ability to accommodate your play style, and help you out more. It looks simpler, but being one talent point every 15 levels, it'll have that much bigger an impact on your gameplay.

I was skeptical watching the MoP trailer as well, but the more I've listened learned and looked into it the better it gets, and I'm more excited that ever. The games done nothing but improve with each expansion for me (except AV. I miss 4 hour struggles, I'll be honest) and I'm sure this will do the same.

Another thing people are ragging on is the pet battle system, saying it's a lame Pokemon rip off. So what? It beats standing there dancing or flying in circles in SW or Org waiting for your dungeon queue to BWOOOONNN. They're adding content to keep people busy, occupied, and entertained. This next expansion will not be a dissapointment to those who enjoy the game. It'll definitely be a fresh experience to everybody, and it'll be interesting to see what hazard is going to come to Azeroth next. Blizzard hasn't even revealed a sliver of MoP yet. Just a taste to get everyone excited.

Yea, your points are valid, I guess i'm just old school. The new talent system to me is not that great, as with anything in WoW there are always people to ask about spec and talents to get the best out of your char. I know I did, when I first got into playing my Lock my talents were very mismatched and it took a fellow guildie to point that out to me. It made me think more of what was required from me and my Lock.
And I agree, a lot of people turned off from Cata and said it was poor in comparison to WotLK. I disagree with that although the jump from HC to raid was quite a lot more than we were used to (I am now unable to upgrade my gear from anywhere apart from raid) and after starting a new guild thats kinda hard till the roster is fuller lol.

I think the main issues I have is that people don't seemt o be willing to work for the rewards like we use to in the old days. Everyone wants to be in a lvl 25 guild, whereas me and my fellow guildies want to be more lore based and driven.

Either way like I said I am willing to completely change my opinion after playing the beta and seeing what it's like. I have faith that Blizzard know what they are doing....

But lets see lol :P

That's the main issue with talents right now. You JUST have one of these few viable specs, and you're judged upon those rather than your skill. You could make your own spec that actually tops DPS with a different rotation, but noone would care or listen. With this new tree system, you have more control over it and you can't be approved or denied with just your spec. It all comes down to your skill and how you play. There's all of a sudden going to be 5 different holy priests in the raid that play different roles apart from healing!

Yeah as of right now, noone is willing to work for the rewards. Farm some gold, buy your gear, hop into a progression guild and get carried. It's not cool. But that's also how you weed those people out, and they're the ones saying "Wow this game sucks, way worse than Wrath." The talents will help this too, I'm sure. You're gonna have to play better than everyone else, and be more coordinated with these timed dungeons that give better rewards. So for those who want it, they'll get it better.

I love how you're so confident about playing Beta haha. Does pretty much everyone just get an invite? I got into the Cata beta and nearly screamed out of joy, I thought it was so exclusive xD

lol, I signed up to the Annual Pass and got a guarentee of playing the Beta. And again I find you make a well reasoned argument about the new talents. I must admit I did not look at it that way, I must admit that if it does go that way I will more than happy with it. At present I like the idea that people can work off your spec to find out what you can do, i.e. Destro Locks should do high burst dps and good damage overall and Aff Locks are better at CC and overall DoT damage. But the multi angled new talents should show an overall control of the class you play. I like it :)

I was actually kind of excited about the idea of the Panderin hah I think it’s kind of a sell out, and I mean they are using the same race for both sides…. but they’re just so damn cute xD

I totally agree with the dumbing down the game though. :( They’ve been doing it consistently for awhile and it sucks. I will admit, there are many changes that make the game less time consuming which some refer to as “dumbing down”- but that’s not what bothers me. Years ago you had the ability to min max your character. You had 3 sets of trees, all of which you had the ability to put points into. If you were stupid enough to put your talent points all over the place- your character sucked. That meant you actually had to read each skill from each tree to know how everything was going to be affected, a simple trial and error process. I was most definitely guilty of this…. My main char is a lock. When I first made her I had points all over the place, causing my DPS to downright *suck*. Instead of whining about it, blaming it on the game and quitting, I stuck to it and in the end it turned out great. Imo, trial and error with the trees and skills results in you knowing your class in and out.

Well, I guess having the ability to completely customize your character’s skills proved too difficult for some. Blizzard’s response: cut down the number of talent points you receive and make it so that you can only spec into a single tree. That way, the people that were butthurt over the fact that they couldn’t handle figuring out how to properly make a character would feel better…. But whatever, it still worked I suppose. You still had a teeny tiny bit of customization you could do, but the process was still idiot proof…. Or so I thought until I saw the new talent system. Now you have one talent point, every FIFTEEN levels, equaling 6 whole points. Oh boy >_< When I saw that, it blew my mind. I mean seriously this:

http://us.media4.battle.net/cms/gallery/41MD9KN6BN6G1319149732822.jpg

Compared to this:

http://images.mmosite.com/feature/news/2008_11_07/aion_wow/wow_02.jpg

I stuck through Blizzard making questing easier, gaining experience easier, making instances easier, making gear easier to get and raids easier to complete…. but turning every class into boring, generic, idiot-proof clones that take no thought to make or play, no thanks. Makes me sad :/ I just hope someday an MMO is released that compares to WoW, because in it’s prime it really was a fantastic game.

@Mizel

You still pick a class tree. Like for Mages: Arcane, Fire, Frost. You learn each of their spells, and abilities like you normally would as you level, as well as previous (current) talents that benefit you.

I don't see how Blizzard dumbed down the talent trees. Currently, everyone uses only a few builds. That seems dumbed down to me. There's only 3 different builds that you can use. With the new trees, you can use a build that benefits your own play style without being judged upon. There's all of a sudden 5 different shadow priests doing different jobs because of their specs being different. Every 15 levels makes a big difference for your talent points too. You have to live with the ability/spell you just learnt for fifteen levels before you get another big choice. That's a game changer right there. It doesn't just actively boost you as you go, you get a burst to it. A challenge. I think the new trees are going to be a great thing, and it'll be nice to see some spec diversity rather than the same 2-5 cookie cutter builds at end game you use.

If you still pick a single class tree…. And can only spec into that specific one, and only get a single point every 15 levels- and they’ve taken many abilities away- how does that offer any spec diversity? It seems that having 3 trees and the ability to spec into all 3 would make for the most diverse range of builds. Like when I started, my lock was half destro and half demonology. You are one or the other now which to me, equals less diverse. Each of the 3 branches of the tree had talents that could help or harm you if you chose the wrong one. So if by more diverse you mean: instead of each tree having multiple abilities that you get to use all at once, you now have multiple abilities that you can’t use all at once, but you can now focus on a specific few…. then yes, I suppose that means more diversity…. but at the cost of losing abilities.

Even according to Blizzard about the old skill tree:

“In Cataclysm, we made some pretty radical adjustments to the talent trees. We really liked offering players a choice of class specialization at level 10, for example, and how streamlining each of the talent trees made room for meaningful choices and greater character customization. But it remained possible for players to "miss" really important performance talents.”

About the simplified MoP tree:

“We want players to gain access to important class performance abilities easily while ensuring that the more engaging utility abilities are front and center. Each talent set is comprised of three talents which fall into a clear "theme”. Currently, the goal is to avoid making any particular talent mandatory or to have them play a role in ability rotations directly.”

Basically summing it up, in their own words…players were missing important abilities so we are changing it all so it’s nice and clear and impossible to choose anything incorrect. And don’t worry what talent you chose, it’ll work regardless because there is no longer a need for a thought out spell rotation.

I’m not sure how that’s *not* dumbing it down since Blizzard pretty much, only in nicer words, said that easier and clear was their goal.

I will admit, that the one time I think the trees will be beneficial is in PvP… Instead of knowing what spec a player is and knowing exactly what talents they have, you don’t because now instead of them having every talent they used to, they only have a few.

From this I read: "Blizzard cut out important spells and abilities." as the main focus.

You still get the important and beneficial talents that aren't in the tree as passive abilities in your spellbook. I believe if you go to the WoW website and click the Mists of Pandaria talent calculator, it will show you a skill/ability guide that goes along with your spec. So important talents like your DW bonus for Frost DK's are added as well and won't go to waste.

Also on your PvP talent tree note, it'll make things kinda interesting, it makes me giggly to think about it. All of a sudden there's 3 rogues on you....with 3 totally different skill sets and playstyles specc'd Assassination. All of a sudden there's a lot more thinking to the spec, as there's different moves they may or may not know, and you've got about 4 seconds to figure them all out. The PvP will be getting a lot more interesting in the game for sure. I don't think they're dumbing it down though. And there's still a ton of things they can tweak and fix with the game, too. We're still months away from release. I'm still expecting another race/class that has the same "Horde or Alliance!" thing the Pandaren does. Which is a kind of neat addition to the game imo.

You’re right, you do still talents and whatnot as passive abilities, it just annoys me that they took so much out. I just loved having a completely open ended set of skills- how it was before Cata even. I kind of feel like for me personally, they are taking out something that I enjoyed- which was mix and matching talents, and experimenting. It really did take a lot of thought and it was hard and frustrating, but I loved that. And it really was easy to royally screw your character up lol I don’t see that being an issue anymore, which is how imo it’s become easier. Well, not really just imo since Blizz basically said that’s what happening and that was their reasoning. But, if I was still playing WoW, and saw this change it’s certainly nothing that would force me to quit. Despite the fact that I feel like they are making it simpler to produce a good character, there is still that bit of curiosity :P

I think the reason Im so mad they are focusing on changing skill trees is because if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. I wish they would have focused more on balancing classes instead. In reality, the new trees are putting them a back a step in that aspect. When I last played, I was playing as a Disc Priest, a supposed healer class. Not only could nobody touch me in BG’s, but even in dungeons at a high level I was top DPS while *also* healing I mean, don’t get me wrong it was awesome lol But obviously not balanced.

As for PvP, it will def make things interesting :) That’s the only thing Im looking forward to with the new talent trees. It may also make PvP more frustrating if not impossible…. but that is to be seen.

All in all, it is what it is. Anytime there is a change or expansion in any game people always freak :P If you like it, keep playing- if you don’t quit…. But at least give it a try first.

-Panda People don't bother me, they are decent and lore relevant race that I will likely play.
-Monks don't bother me, in fact I'm dreaming of making a troll monk.
-Pet Battles don't bother me, gives companion pets some use and I like that, more things to do in the game.
-Scenarios don't bother me.
-Alliance vs. Horde focus doesn't bother me, better than a cliche bad guy.

BUT TAKE AWAY MY WINDFURY TOTEM AND THAT'S WHEN I DRAW THE ****ING LINE!!!

It increased the party's melee haste by 5% which was pretty darn important for a enhancement shaman like me. But that's a passive bonus and passive bonus totems are getting canned :(

I swear if they take out fire elemental and earth elemental totem

Hunter: "I don't know how to play my class, still do 20k dps!!!" No but your argument is valid, Blizzard does make poor choices in class balance. But I'm excited for the xpack and I will be happy if those QQers on the official forums leave because "its a kung fu panda kids game!"

But they won't

Lol .. The fact of the matter is, no matter what Blizzard adds or changes within the gameplay .. They aren't going anywhere and people will continue to play the game, even if they take a break (ie. me) because they are very good at what they do, marketing and keeping people coming back or drawing in new customers. Scroll of resurrection for example, they could take away all our fun toys and we would still go back like zombies lol .. least I would eventually :P

They're weird about randomly nerfing and bumping up random classes... after so long you'd think it'd be not so hard for them to figure it out lol

No, they aren't going anywhere... but I bet *realllll* soon it's gonna be free to play :P

O god. As DW frost DK, this is horrible news. :( I need my haste!

I hope it's DK's again :D we got a pretty good thing with the blood -> death runes if you're frost lol. Much more DPS <3

I hope they fix arena for hunters. After a certain team rating you are useless cause all they do is hug the columns
