looking to buy a handheld console.
i'mn a bit behind the times lol and just bought my ps2 in the summer but now i'm back to uni never have the time to play it, so i'm thinking maybe a handheld device for the bus (and boring lecture ) might be the way to go.
i dont want to be paying silly money and i'm not like a hc gamer so not looking for the newest out or anything.
i'm into sonic and mario games mainly.
been thinking about the nintendo ds or psp.
ds i've only ever seen **** games advertised like brain academy and some dog thing lol. but psp i got told the UMD arent exactly portable so psp go would be better (as i download the games or something?)
what handheld console would you recomend?
and any chance of explaining how they both exaclty work (eg psp does music and vids right? - ds doesnt. but now there the ds lite, the 3ds etc).
(tbh i still have my gbc and like 7 mario games which are ace the only thing is though they dont have a save option, if there was a way to encode/ alter this so i could save them i'd be pretty happy!)

I dont really know what handeheld console to get, but I can tell you righ away that you dont need to double post threads(or posts). One of these threads will probably be deleated by mods anyway.

Just get a smartphone and go on GF all the time like me. And paec was just informing you of the rules so the mods don't have to bother. Read the forum rules.

I was just informing, but I personally would go for a psp, I dont feel dragged to the games released on ds or 3ds, Preferably I (personally) would wait for the psp vita, mostly cause it got better graphics. I cant tell you so much more about the handhelds.

but the vita is likely to be pretty pricey when it comes out i guess.

If you're looking for cost effectiveness then invest in a book :p. Actually a smartphone does sound like it would suit your needs. It has some small games and its useful for everything else. Depending on your plan it could get expensive though.

The Vita is not really going to be overpriced. It should be around 250 and will for sure be better than the nintendo handhelds... any of them. Save your pennies and buy this. It can play ps3 games, is a phone, and has a camera. Will not likely be beat.

I don't think they released any information on that yet. It may be patched with a firmware update to do so.

Vita definitely looks like it's gonna be pretty amazing. But if you like Mario & Sonic games and want something now then I'd go with the Nintendo 3DS. Not to mention, PSP doesn't even have Mario games which you said you want to play. :)
The 3DS also does music (AAC, .m4a, .mp4, .3gp and .mp3) and has the Netflix app. for movies. Not sure if you can put movies on the SD card or not... I haven't actually tried that yet, come to think of it. haha It has real web browsing and then, of course, there are the games. It will play any DS game and has loads of games in the eShop for download. If you get one, get Super Mario 3D Land for it & Ocarina of Time 3D (if you like Zelda games). I got 3D Land Sunday and have NO complaints so far.
So, my summary, I'd get the DS or 3DS since you like Mario & Sonic. Both of which have titles available on the DS or 3DS systems. I'd get the 3DS because it can play both regular DS and 3DS games and has a lot of titles set to release that look awesome and it's not all that pricey since the price drop. $170 in the US, not sure about elsewhere though. Anywho, happy buying! :)

It's all about preference, I personally think the( now I'm going just with big handheld gaming platforms not phones.) the 3ds and the ps vita will both be tip top gaming devices(owning a 3ds I can say it is one fantastic handheld) but really you should do a little research on games out and games comeing out that suit your interest.

I feel like this is a bad post. To outright say that something that hasn't come out yet will be better than any Nintendo handheld ever makes you sound like you have a raging hard on for either Sony or hating Nintendo. Now I hope that isn't the case but even if I disregard the a fore mentioned you still need to remember it will just boil down to someone's preference and opinion. I have a 3DS and as such don't see a point in getting a new phone/camera/PS3/handheld because I
1. have a phone
2. have a camera
3. don't see that many PS3 games I feel compelled to play
and 4. already have a handheld system with a lot of good games just being released and also coming out in near future that I am compelled to play.
Now this isn't to say it will be a bad system either though but most of its functionality is just extra added cost raisers to me cause I would only use it to play games. So unless its list of games is truly something epic I wont think twice about not getting it.
However for someone without a camera, has a pile for a phone they want to replace, love PS3, and wants a good handheld this could be a godsend.
This sorta leads me to the person who posted. Sounds like he just wants a cheap way to play good games, in which case I would recommend a GBA SP (gameboy advance sp). Or if he wanted to splurge on himself a 3DS that holds the games he shows a preference for.
And no i don't hate Sony or anything so don't try to call me a hater and biased.

I was just simply stating facts. The Vita's tech demo was phenomenal. It played MGS4 flawlessly. Even if I did in fact have a "hard on" for Sony, it would not take away the fact that this handheld is going for groundbreaking strides. I own plenty of Nintendo products, handhelds and consoles, so it is really hard to say I hate Nintendo. I am just excited to see something come out that isn't just a tweak of the previous handheld. This is a complete reconstruction.

So when you said "and will for sure be better than the nintendo handhelds... any of them" that was fact?
Only certain parts of what you said are actuall fact and as such I feel only the real Factual parts of your post should be lumped toghther. Your post as a whole isnt factual, its mixes opinion with facts and should be seperated that way. The facts, and then your opinion.
Other wise I could lump in fact and opinion just as easy and say that Wii Sports is one of the greatest games of all time cause it sold more than most games and is better than bacon. Clearly part of that is factual and the other part opinion (a bad opinion though, I mean come on, whats better than bacon?).

Well I see where you are coming from, but I suppose I should have kept it to power-wise. It will indeed be more powerful than any of the other handhelds, but better is more opinion based on what games you like to play.

Now this I can agree with fully. I do really want to see how nice they make games look on the vita. Will feel weird to see such good graphics on a handheld.

I agree with you on that. I know I'm getting the next gen wii (forgot the name) and the vita when it comes out. I think that will keep me occupied for a few years haha
