View Full Version : Ice Cream Controversy

I was driving to class this morning when I heard one of the craziest stories on the radio. A Ben and Jerry's ice cream store came out with a new type of ice cream, "Taste the Linsanity", named after Jeremy Lin, NBA basketball player for the New York Knicks. This new ice cream contained crumbled bits of fortune cookies. Long story short, somebody claimed it was racist to have fortune cookie pieces on ice cream named after an Asian basketball player. Ben and Jerry's was forced to remove the fortune cookie bits from the ice cream. I'm curious to see how everyone feels on this situation. I can see how fortune cookies are usually associated with Asians, but was it necessary to remove them from the ice cream?

People claim racism for attention. I think that's stupid.

I think it is awesome that Ben and Jerry's decided to use Lin as a selling point. He has a really good story, and it is basically free advertisement for him. Haters gonna hate

Its always nice to see new proof everyday that the world is getting more and more crazy. :p

I dont like fortunate cookies but the people calling that racism are just stupid.

I don't think it's racist and it sounds delicious :(

I'm not Asian though so maybe it is, but I really don't think they intended it to be. They're replacing the fortune cookies with waffle cones, I guess, which is still delicious and basically the same thing anyway.

He has definitely had legitimate racist things said/done against him, after a google search, but I really don't feel like this is one of them. But oh well, I guess. I wonder if he personally finds it racist o.o

O....K.

This is just yet more proof that the world is way too PC for it's own good. Would have been interesting to know how the ice cream/fortune cookie combo tasted though!

fortune cookies are more raciest than that ice cream.

Also that combo seems horrible and them adding cone doesn't make it any better. Scrap the project!

I dunno. The fortune cookie idea came by me as interesting. I'd give it shot! But the waffle cone idea isn't very original. It just seems boring.

One time a few years ago here, this Chinese restaurant had fortune cookies and all the lucky numbers on them were exactly the same. Turns out those numbers were linked to the lottery and everyone who used those numbers won big!

I'm pretty sure that was just a fairy tale made up by a bunch of drunk guys at the gas station to give themselves hope, but whatever works! :p
