Reports suggest that UK retailers GAME and Gamestation will no longer be selling a single EA title beyond the release of SSX this coming Friday.

Due to the change in GAME's credit rating they have struggled to maintain stock of the latest titles and it looks like it's about to get worse for both of them.

Is this the start of a slippery slope leading down to a close-down?

They will either go completely bust, or they will primarily become an online retailer, like Virgin Megastore did, as they don't have anywhere near as many retail stores as they used to in the 90s and early 2000s.

If you're not stocking a top 3rd party, it's basically the beginning of the end. How big of part are these guys for your countries game buying ?

It wouldn't be a major loss for us. We have HMV and other spots to get our games from on the main streets, but to be honest most of us are obviously savvy with internet shopping so it wouldn't be a big deal if both GAME and Gamestation shut down.

I get most of my games online anyway, whether it be a digital copy or a hard copy.

Was just curious because for a lot of towns in USA. Most folks got 2 options. Wal Mart and Gamestop really.

It will all end up being internet shopping eventually anyway. Either that, or everything will become digital.

I could see that happening. Both actually at the same time. The thing that sucks about it is that is a lot of retail jobs people are going to lose in smaller towns. Eventually we will all be living in mega cities.

Indeed. There's a supermarket chain over here, and in other parts of the world, called Tesco, which you may have heard of. It is basically a megastore for everything; clothes, groceries, other foods and drinks, electricals, video games, movies, etc, etc.

Just in my city centre there are 4 Tesco stores, 1 big one and 3 express and metro stores. In my local village there is one big Tesco and it's directly at fault for half of the little shops in the village main street closing down.

Big stuff like that also contributes to the crappiness of people losing jobs in retail.

Here's the latest (http://game-craic.com/2012/03/game-consider-pulling-the-plug/) on the GAME group's plan of action. They're considering pulling the plug to avoid more losses.

I mainly buy games from Asda or Tesco, so I don't care if either of them shutdown. Not being able to sell EA games will kill them off though imo.
