Sony Vegas is a great software, I use it myself, I'm no where near being an expert but it is a great software to use.

If you are considering it, download the trial first, use it for a month and see how/if you like it.

All levels of experience. My friend went from scratch, knowing nothing about movie software to some simple montage editing. Here's one example, more on the channel. Not much but he was only into it for a little while.

I'm learning the use of Sony Vegas atm. and in my opinion there is no better way than "Trial and Error", I use only tutorials if I have no frickin' clue what I'm even doing.^^

It's a great program but there are still more complex programs than Sony Vegas but it's very good for personal use.

It's one of the best programs for video editing in the private sector, and if you are thinking about editing movies it's absolutely recommended.
