How much does it cost to repair the Playstation 3 Laser?

Long story short, I need to repair my PS3 laser (not under warranty). How much will this run me and is it even possible?

If you send it back to Sony I think I recall it was 150, but this was awhile ago. So perhaps 100 now.

My store usually does stuff like that for $100 including labor so I'm guessing if you were to buy it yourself it would be much less expensive.

But if you buy it yourself you might not be able to install it properly. Honestly I think it would be better to have someone who knows what they are doing do it :p

you can buy a blue ray laser for $40 bucks, I know because I have seen people turn them into laser guns. But I dont know if just any laser will work for the PS3.

Not sure if you're still looking for advice on this but you could just buy the laser and search for Youtube Vids on how to install it. If you pay someone else to do it you're looking at $100+.

sometimes you just need to clean the laser my original xbox needed that a 5 dollar disc that cleans the laser

I still haven't gotten around to it, but chances are I will try what you said. I don't think its that hard anyway.
