The team behind the "Halo" series, one of the all-time top video game franchises, said Friday that it was splitting from parent Microsoft Corp. and eventually might develop titles for consoles that compete with Microsoft's Xbox.
Though both sides described the spinoff as amicable, it shows the difficulty faced by the 32-year-old software behemoth in fostering the creative environment necessary to keep innovative game designers and engineers in other hot areas happy......
wow...here (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-halo6oct06,1,478258.story?coll=la-default-underdog&ctrack=1&cset=true) ... what is your opinion on this

you think microsoft will buy the back though since they bought bungie in the first place.

they're splitting from microsoft not as a team but as individuals taking their salaries and making a new company i expect, microsoft can't just buy them back, they have to agree, it's not the biggest blow to microsoft being that dell's 4th quarter profit is $13.4billion and microsoft has soo many different areas it gets hard to calculate their profits but the xbox hit $11billion in the 4th quarter of 2005 so you can see, a franchise worth probably $2billion really isn't much when you think mr gates has a personal bank account of an approximated $68billion as of 2005

lol i wish microsoft do not go bankrupt because i love PC's BUT i dont want them to own most of the money in the world either...

most of the money in the world? Dell make $13billion every christmas so $70billion hardly isn't all the money.
Most people in UK apparently will earn on average $2million in their life time. it's also said that to actually really live a millionaire lifestyle you need $6billion but that's in uk you can probably halve that for america since a lush house there in houston is about $500k-$750k :P

and as you have told me before they get the half the money we get in the Uk anyway

Roughly half, i know someone on $44,000/year who's like 19 which is quite alot. $700k in britain would get a house like yours, $700k in texas will get a 5bedroom 6 bathroom house with 2 swimming pools and a double garage.

Yeah but texas sucks lol everything is cheap for that reason :p Even internet is cheap

actuallly i expect it's because of the sheer size,
State size: 266,807 square miles (2nd in size)
Anyway, back to topic.
although it's a shame for microsoft to lose bungie to sony (well, what other company offers a competitor? macintosh?nope, lmao, nintendo? hardly) i doubt it's really going to effect the sales of the 360 with soo many good games out and such a great online service (and hell, it's only $7/month... not going to break the bank.)

Even when bungie goes Microsoft will always try to buy out its competitors anyway lol. They tried to buy out sony once but they refused :p

exactly, if the company can stay on it's 2 feet it won't accept a buyout.. instant cash but could be stupid in the long run...

Watch microsoft like make something big. And blow off everything lol
their intention is to do that all the time but it doesnt always work out like that lol, some other smaller company always fights back - this time Nintendo fought back with the Wii and they are winning

Are you sure nintendo are winning? lol. I still think the xbox 360 is winning in how much they are earning :p How much they sell doesnt matter. Its all about profit lol
