I installed the preview a few days ago just to try it out. I didn't seem to like that much, it seemed to turn your computer into a tablet. I didn't try to play any games on it, didn't seem worth it, but I feel like it's going to be a slower operating system because of all the crap that's always running.

I hope that this isn't their new direction in OS, because I didn't enjoy it. It had some neat features, it looks a lot like the Xbox 360 OS, had the same style and a lot of applications. Nothing that I would find useful, I rather just open up a browser and look at things, but I can see where they were going. I already took it off, I thought it was going to be more like windows 7.

Anyone else try it out yet?

I tried it out, and yeah they do turn it into a tablet, it's all in the plan to make windows apps available for both the PC, mobile, and phones using windows.

Microsoft tends to screw up every other operating system (not counting the anomaly of 95 and 98 because they made up for it with terrible ME and 2000) so I'm probably gonna skip this one as my main OS. Just like Vista, I'll have it installed somewhere but it won't be my main unless they really impress me somehow.

Agreed, too much like a tablet.

They thin that more and more people will use tablets instead of pc,s so they are making so that their OPs can be used everywhere.

Doesn't sound like something I want to try.

Seems like a good idea with poor execution. From the reviews I have read it seems that people say good things about the old features and don't like the new ones so much. Definitely seems like something you'd want to buy a fancy touch screen for

Why touch screen! Aaaah!

The start menu was a good friend of mine, but I guess once everything MAY become windows 8 and I will simply have to adjust(LOL or simply use Linux only).

I tried it out and I must say, I feel a bit noobier than usual when using it.

I have read some more about it now, you got two modes (desktop and play mode(I think)) With the desktop mode you use it similarly to windows 7 and it looks also pretty similar, however you dont have a start button. instead you got a start screen(it fills up the whole screen once you click on it)

However it doesnt give you to many advantages agains windows 7, if you use W8 with mouse and keyboard it might be a bit more clumsy, however you can download apps(like in a smartphone)

There is a way to re-enable the start menu. The options are somewhere, I never did it when I played with the beta but I know people who has turned it on.

man, the way it looks, its good for some people, (especially for tablet users) but I think i'll stick to win7 for a while. still looks neat though.

I hope I'm able to code easily on it.

I've been messing with windows 8 a lot lately and I'd have to say it has a lot of potential. The new interface was not the best of ideas but it seems to be fairly stable and easy to work with otherwise. For those of you who want to try the new OS but want your start menu, give classic shell a try. It's a start menu app that you can customize almost any way you want it.

The one problem I found was compatibility issues with some software and games I have. Hopefully that will be resolved with an update or two.
