Hey everyone,

Long time lurker turned poster just felt like asking you guys a question.

I'm opening a business in the new year as a gaming retail outlet in southern Ontario, Canada. I've been combing over the ideas of an amateur league but am wondering what games to run it on.

I'm not sure if I want one grouping of teams with players for all the games or different teams for each unique game.

So the question is if you were going to join a league for a game which game would it be and would you prefer a team that was focused on many games or just one?

Are you talking strictly video games?

Haha No problem, just wasn't sure :P

Oh man.... honestly I'd have to say that I'd think most people that would be into that would probably want to see games like CoD, Halo, etc..... But me personally, I'd like to maybe have more than just one group mainly because most games I like don't have the same kind of player capacity like games such as CoD. I'd want to see something like PlayStation All-Stars/Smash Bros/any fighting type game... or games like Borderlands 2.

Yeah see that's how I saw it as well. Most teams already seem to have that sort of a setup anyways (team liquid, fnatic, etc). Its going to be basically an amateur league for the surrounding area and then have a store team that I will do my best to sponsor for Pro League events. It will also offer them the opportunity to engage in a more tightly nit team experience. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not I should start with a single focus or offer more for everyone.

Maybe try starting out with 1 or 2 leagues and see how they go and then as time goes on expands? Too bad this is in Canada because it sounds really fun :P

I think you should do separate leagues. Like sports and shooters.

Mizel probably hit the nail on the head with this one. You'll get better attention with the mainstream games but don't forget the other fun games.

Wish someone would do this near me. Every place that has tried lasted less than a year.

Starcraft II seems to be pretty popular. Haha Our local Barcraft events have amazing turnouts, but I dunno how the crowd is in Canada. I dunno about just focusing on one single game though. More games to me means more opportunities for more/different crowds.
