TERA is officially going free-to-play this February. The exact date has yet to be released, but En Masse Entertainment has collected all of the other pertinent details in a lengthy F2P FAQ that you can find on the official website.
The new game service will feature three tiers: Founder, Elite, and Standard. Standard is TERA's free offering, while Elite is the usual $14.99 per month subscription option. Founder status is acquired by purchasing and redeeming a copy of the game and is good for life. Some of the free-to-play limitations include character slots (two per server with the option to purchase more), bank slots (72 with the option to purchase more), and various brokerage fees and taxes. There are no race, class, or content limitations, although Elite players do get dungeon cooldown bonuses.
Here's a video that shows some of the details as well.

I'm super stoked about this. TERA is by far my favorite MMO. I only played for 2 months total last year but nothing else I've played can even compare. Having the switch to free just means I get to play it again!

Some of my coworkers play this so much (sometimes even at work) but I haven't yet because it's p2p. But now...I might give it a go.

Amazon had this game on sale for $5 the other day. Glad I never bought it. The demo was cool, but the game content obviously isn't great if it's already dropped in price that much and going F2P :/

I might try it if my computer can run it.

It's totally worth it even to pay for it.

HOW DAAARREE YOUUUU. Not really. But kinda really. I've never played an MMO this good. It's the most fun I've ever had playing on any computer game, for that matter. The demo mode is kinda watered down, but the F2P mode is the exact same as what you pay for now. The combat system alone makes even the grind quests fun. I'm a huge TERA fanboy btw :P I seriously can't get enough of the game.

Definitely check it out man. They have a trial edition out that you can play. The only thing you can't do is go past level 28 (takes a while to get there anyways) and vote for vanarchs I believe (The in game political system.)

Lol I really enjoyed it too. I had a LOT of fun with the customizing and way the skills were set up. It was awesome. I was only just assuming that more end game content can't be that great only because it's on sale for so little and going free to play. Are you into the game enough to have experienced end content type stuff? I'm interested to know if it's good :)

Sorry bout my last post, I'm hyper and over tired from working nights, woooooo
I haven't personally done the end game. I've been told it's not like WoW's end game. In WoW the raids are focused on team coordination in big numbers, and there's a lot to keep track of. In TERA, it's 5-man end dungeons with a normal and hard mode, with 2 new dungeons that reward you for completing them faster and faster. It focuses more on your personal skill level, while coordinating with your team. It's not just pop a stun, burn your globals, run behind the rock, kill kill kill. It's prioritizing your skills correctly to maximize the damage you and your group do.
There's only one BG currently, and it's similar to AB. There's a new one coming out with the F2P update, and talks of more in the future as well as dungeons. The PvP is a lot faster paced, and there's lots of world PvP with the guild vs guild system, and outlaw system. You can declare yourself an outlaw and roam around killing people like crazy, but in turn you're gonna rack up a bounty which is gonna reward whoever kills you big time.
There's no "pay to win" feature which is nice too. The cash shop gives you cosmetic items only, it's not "Hey buy the best lancer weapon you can for just $10!!" which is nice. They do have a pretty big fan base for a newer game, unfortunately it just wasn't big enough for them to make pay to play worth it. I think they're just trying to build a bigger fan base up with the free to play, cause you can still subscribe monthly to support them. You get some perks at endgame (more daily quests and dungeons) and there's the cosmetic shop as well.
I dunno, I love the game. They gave me 2 weeks of free game time as well out of the blue so I'm gonna be on that like...well for 2 weeks now I guess till it's free xD
/wall. Sorry Mizel D:

Not for someone like me with only a few hours of play time a week. Plus when I start paying to play games, my free time will probably decrease even more making it a total waste. That's why I never went for p2p games.

LOL No worries :P I actually really like the sound of the end game content in Tera versus WoW. I dislike raiding, a lot. It bores the **** out of me. Normally when I get to end game in WoW, I just PvP or make a new char LOL If this game is def going F2P, I'm totally buying it. Thanks for the info :)

No prob! Just a heads up it's only 2 BG's though ;P Although the worlds do have massive population, and there's quite a bit of world PvP now since there's been a free week trial thingy out. So the PvP server will probably be pretty lively in the first few months of it being free.

Haha I'm okay with that. Better than none! :) Especially if they have world PvP. Are all of the servers PvP, or is it like WoW where you can choose?

There are only 3 servers, but each server has 5 channels (So Channel 1 can only talk with and see other people in Channel 1, etc.) You have options of PvE, PvP, and I can't remember if the RP server is PvP or not :S

Bump as a reminder! Today is the day that TERA:Rising is FREEE. That's right folks. Don't let it spook you either, it's still the same great game, just free for everyone to enjoy. Actually, there was a new patch today that added a ton of content. Soooo get downloading and come play! :)

I would also reccomend playing the NA client if you're normally on the EU one. The service here is WAY better. Also, there's two different companies in charge of each client. Unfortunately, Gameforge(running the EU client) thinks the game should be pay to win, and charges almost double what En Masse(NA publishers) does for the cosmetic shop. :(

Yup we have the founder status! Cool new mount, and upped character limit, bank slots, and auction postings. I think they added the new dungeons in the patch Tuesday, so there's your high level content answer! ;) Still don't think Elite status is worth the $15/mo though. They'd have to add some more perks imo to make it worth it.

But...It's free now man. So you don't need money. xD

Hmm, anyone play this that's also played Guild Wars 2? This looks interesting but I'd like to know how it stacks up in general. Been out of GW2 for bout a month but I'm looking to get back into it so I'll only have time for one MMO.
