At least according to Don Reisinger of Cnet.

Microsoft Xbox 360
Generally speaking, it's Microsoft that has the most to worry about this holiday season. I believe the Xbox 360 will take the day when this whole console battle is over, but all in all, it looks like the next few months will be tough.

A quick glimpse at the Gamestop release calendar will tell you everything you need to know for this holiday season. In a word, the games lineup is mediocre -- at best. Sure, games like Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect will be hitting shelves, but only the latter will be exclusive to the Xbox 360. And to be quite honest, it's the exclusive titles that will shape this holiday season.

Microsoft has already done what it had to do -- get Halo 3 out the door and enjoy unprecedented hardware and software revenue. In fact, the release of Halo 3 solidified the company as a major player in this business for years to come. But the main problem with its strategy of releasing the game so early is the lack of true hardware-sellers. Sure, Mass Effect looks neat, but is it on par with a game like Halo, which is the main reason the majority of people bought an Xbox 360 in September? I doubt it.

Overall Xbox 360 outlook for the holiday season: mediocre.

Funny part is, he says the PS3 will have a moderate to strong holiday season. Main reason? The $400 price point. Obviously the 360 being $50-$80 cheaper has no impact whatsoever.

That's dumb

Virtua Fighter 5 and Bioshock are system sellers.

And Star Wars KOTOR was a system seller more than oh, 3 years ago and Mass Effect will be an even bigger system seller. This guy, a rookie. Hasn't been in the industry long and it shows

KOTOR had the Star Was brand behind it. Mass Effect does not. In a perfect world, Halo 3's and Mass Effect's release dates should have been switched for business purposes.

Is it not reasonable to think that Halo (along with other titles) will continue to sell consoles until the end of the year?

Mass Effect is already getting perfect word of mouth, and the hype train for the game will be gearing up when it comes to this holliday season.

Introducing people to Mass Effect will be easy, even if its not star wars. Epic space RPG and a story to match: Game on.

They know exactly what they're doing, the same thing they did with Splinter Cell when it first came out....

Virtua Fighter 5? Seriously? I don't think you'll see big numbers from that one even though it has online play.

Also, Xbox sales did not increase drastically over the Summer of 2003 when KOTOR released, despite the game's worldwide success and critical acclaim.

Now, I'm not sure about Mass Effect. It'll probably be a big hit.

But I suspect that the attractive price point of the Xbox 360, the availability of Halo 3, and the already sizeable library of Xbox 360 games will be the big drivers of holiday success for the Xbox 360, and not just a single new release. Definitely not anything Sega's releasing. They haven't had a big hit in a while.

Mass Effect is a niche game if you compare it to something like Halo 3. In fact, I think Call of Duty 4 will actually sell better than Mass Effect and it is a multiplatform title. Massive RPGs just don't have as big of an audience as other genres do.

Yeah, Call of Duty 4's a big one. It's like the "reawakening" for that series, and people are going to buy it in droves. Also, Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3.
