Here are the latest Japanese console hardware sales for the week of October 15 - 21, 2007:
1. NDS Lite - 70,608 [5,724,448]
2. PSP - 58,669 [2,066,468]
3. Wii - 24,932 [2,760,665]
4. PlayStation 3 - 17,130 [752,425]
5. PlayStation 2 - 10,281 [627,823]
6. Xbox 360 - 3,011 [161,508]
7. GBA SP - 130 [21,175]
8. GB Micro - 118 [26,710]
9. GameCube - 48 [10,021]
The Wii is still doing decent numbers, but the PS3 has really picked up, and it's looking more like a close race. The PS3 is also in line to overtake the Wii week-on-week next week or the one after.
Has the Wii bubble burst? Are Wiis still scarce there? Or has the PS3's run of bad sales just come to the end to put some competition back in the game? Will Wii-Fit put the Wii back at the top again?
Either way, the Japanese sales charts are starting to have more worth looking at and speculating on, after a year of almost identical weekly results.
