I dled gimp last night and is ok. but how do you add a character to the canvas?

you need a render - go to like planetrenders.com and get some renders off there and just open it along with your signature and drag and drop -

its a cutout of a picture - like that character u were talking about - it has a transparent background

go to planetrenders - sign up an account and download the .png files of the images - .jpg will give u a while background and it'll look ugly

As linux said but there is a few ways if your computer has low ram you can copy and paste merge down and use the magic wand tool on the backround.... but you might have black or whatever color line (If you use 2.4 press delete if you have 2.2 drag away)

or you can save it as a png(the render) go to file open as layers and select it from what it shows saved. and then you can move it around:laugh:

when i right clicke it brings up the canvas selections like image. frame. etc.

-edit- planetrenders.com doesnt have S}{][T...
-re-edit- Ok i can insert characters but cant get the background (white part) tanslucent

that's 75% true haha :laugh: - but 25% of the time, the user just isn't used to the layouts and features of how the software works

and also if anyone uses photoshop for a while then moves onto gimp, it is very unlikely he'll like gimp more - the case with me lol
