I guess they're including the 360 add-on because it can only play movies?

It specifically states it includes both stand-alone players and the 360 add-on

I wonder what Blu-Ray stand alone is at.

Obviously, but that wasn't my question.

They added it for promotion, I guess. The dedicated in the title is a bit misleading in my opinion.
There isn't any HD-DVD player out there that does more than playing movies.
Blu-ray camp is lucky to have the Millions of PS3 on it's side!

It could be the reason.
But dont the blu-ray camp count PS3 as a dedicated player?

I don't think so. That's why when Sony releases numbers people always call them into question. Like they sold X amount of players in October.

face it , if the ps3 did not include the blu-ray, it would already be dead and this format war over. Clearly HD-DVD is the choice for stand alone players and that is what should be the focus of this war.

But these numbers include th e 360 add on.
You cant exclude the PS3 without excuding the add on IMO.

If HD-DVD fanboys want to win the format way they need to buy more, Blu-Ray software still dwarfs HD-DVD software and that all Movie company's care about. I'm quite shocked Paramount chose to prolong the war by accepting the bribe for help, I wonder they'll chose after the 18 month contract is up. Either way both still could become niche, DVD will be really strong long after one of these 2 win, I expect it take at least 10 years before a HD format take majority marketshare.

People only buy the add on for movies so I think its fair to include it.
WE dont know if people buy the PS3 for games, movies or both.

I get what your saying and agree i said the same thing a while back but i have always considered dedicated players as standalone players or players built in to a TV combi.
Perhaps my perception of a dedicated player is wrong but that is how i look at it.

I agree with you about the dedicated player thing the in a way the add on is like half a dedicated player. It only plays movies but you need a 360 for it.
Im 99.99% sure that no one bout the 360 just for the add on.

Not true.Is everyone that owns a PS3 using the BR feature? hell no....but,no-one is gonna buy a 360 add-on and just let it collect dust because it does not play games. It should be counted as a stand alone.

Nah i doubt anybody done that either.

The 360 does not come with HD-DVD viewing capability. To do that you must intentionally buy that add-on. Nobody is going to buy the add-on unless they are watching HD-DVD movies. Therefore, the 360 add-on SHOULD be considered as a player.
on the PS3, it's a bit harder to judge.
I think to get a really accurate read you have to look at number discs sold in each format. It's the best way to determine what is really happening.

I would gander that these outrageous claims that people don't know there is a Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 are completely false. Hell, I had someone ask me if the PS3 played DVD's because it had a Blu-Ray drive.

Well said..
Fun story.. at BestBuy looking at TV's and they had a blu-ray player with spiderman.. The movie actually had a loading screen (3 minutes to load menu) LOL HD DVD is faster loading but as far as quality they are the same i think..
Also, PS3's should be not be counted considering the addon for 360 MUST BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY! So for ps3 they arent getting the blu-ray by choice its forced upon them.
Just my 2 cents.. jakncoke will just reply "your a mindless fanboy" watch ^_^ Do some research.
