Install updates scares the crap out of me

The reason my first X360 died was that the game Bioshock installed an update that ended up with me having my console turned into a paper weight. With my new one, I had to install updates to play Halo 3. Nearly dumped a log right there. It turned out alright though, I guess it was just an error in the code on Bioshock. Does anyone else have the same fear of updates for their consoles, and does PS3 have any console updates bundled in with their games?

P.S. - On a side note if anyone needs help with any coding (c++, VB) PM me. If there is already a thread for this excuse me as I am new and haven't looked around completely.

I think when the Wii plays a game that was released later than it was bought, it starts a system update, because to start the game it plays a sound a shows a picture at the main screen so it is probably just learning the game.

So now, I don't fear updates.

I choose not to update although theres setbacks with not!

I fear them as well, for the sole reason it threatens to log me out of Xbox Live if I don't download it. That's straight up BLACKMAIL!
