hello, could anybody tell what and or even how you overclock your pc and what are the gains and costs of doing it?

im buying a new pc as far as i know it will not be overclocked can i do it myself or get some body who know what they are doing to do it for me (maybe the company building it)

overclocking is just increasing the power and speed of your computer parts - most people do this with their graphics card so they can view more without worrying about lagging and some can even make things look better on your pc

and overclocking can be done with a software - these days many GPU sellers will give you a cd in their box that lets you install it into your pc - and inside the cd there is usually a "bonus" or "extra" option that lets you over clock - overclocking softwares can also be downloaded free from the net depending on what you want to do

and it can be dangerous because it has the potential of blowing up your PC - i mean, literally blowing up your pc lol - some components just can't handle more power so the fan may burst or the whole thing may short circuit and screw up the rest of your pc

i have an over powered GPU already so I can't over clock it - it's about 30% more powerful than the regular version of GeForce 8600gt - and if i overclock it to make it like 60% more powerful, it will probably explode, thats why i didn't risk it lol - and no returns or warranties left on these
