With the release of GTA IV, many people have forgotten the "older" games of GTA. And when I heard that GTA IV was one of the games that you just had to play on the 360, or the PS3, I thought I should give this a go. But, without knowing what the series is about, I picked up an old game from the series, that game was GTA III. Can the old game compare to the new ones? Even though it's old, is it still good? If you read on, you will definately find out if GTA III is worth your time, or not.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is definately a game that is worth buying. It's difficult yet fun missions, great variety of weapons, lots of vehicles to choose from, including boats and aircrafts, and free-roam is fun that will last you for more then one month. But, just listing that isn't enough for a review, I'll give you an in depth approach from a player that has never played a GTA game.
In GTA, the missions from the start seem easy, and boring, but as you go on later, they get much harder, and much funner. The missions are typical "gangster" one's. Where you play as a small time gangster that is working for big time gangs. You basically take anything thats offered from them, and do the dirty work. Missions are in a variety, one time you'll be driving a boat trying to blow up another guys boat, and the next you'll be rushing against the clock to escort someone to a designated place. Overall, the missions are fun and can get hard. The only problem I have is that some missions are way to hard, but this doesn't mean they are impossible. Just the amount times you will die in them, can really tick you off. Especially if you've gone far into the mission, only to have your car fail on you by hitting another car and bursting into flames and you don't have enough time to get out. I know this has happened to me before, and it's bound to happen to you. Another thing that I disliked about GTA 3 is it's variety of music. It's good, but from my point of view it's missing a lot of genres, and sometimes listening to it really annoys you. You're better off just turning off the radio in whatever vehicle you are driving.
Next thing I'll talk about is the graphics. The environment is fine, and the buildings are great, but the thing that bothers me the most is the character design. Most of the characters don't even look good, and once I was sniping a member from the Cartel (a gang in GTA) and it looked as if he didn't have a face. Most of the other characters are like this.
The good thing about GTA is the wonderful city, why this is good is because if you know how to fly a Dodo (a sea-plane) you can look at the whole city. It's actually a great view, especially at night, and with the graphics it makes you feel like you're in a real city.
Also, the story is very interesting. Although sometimes it strays aside and just focuses on the missions, the real story is very exciting and always keeps you excited. Some of the missions you'd never expect you'd actually do, but you do. I won't spoil further for those who haven't played.

Story: 9/10
Good story, often strays aside, some plot twists and definately grabs you in.
Graphics: 8/10
Could be better, environment is very good, buildings, etc. Characters could be done better.
Gameplay: 10/10
Very fun, great variety of weapons, cars, boats, etc.
Sound: 6/10
Could be better, not a lot of genres and the genres that are there, like hip-hop, rap, don't have good songs. I give it points for the attempt though. - Also, your character doesn't talk at all.
Overall: 9/10
Fun game, grabs you in, graphics are good, but sound could be better.
