Apparently according to the Mayan calender and a number of other sources the world is supposed to end on December 21st 2012 do you think this is true or is it just another stupid end of world prediction I read that the Mayans had a number of different calenders that all had ended at a specific point one lasted 52 yrs another calender only lasted 260 days so I just think that this calender is the same as the others it will end just as the others did and reset back to the first day of the calender but some idiots think just becuz the calender ends on that date means its the end of the world well sry folks its not we will all still be here on December 22 2012 :-P

and i get my masters a year before that...and if anything happens i'll be pissed.

mayans were great at math - their calendar is the most accurate in the world - surpasses the islamic and english calendars - they are good with that

aztecs were the same i believe - ancient civs > current ones

I think Mayans calendar was off by like 3 seconds for how long it took for a whole year to pass. Which is pretty amazing, considering they made there calendar... probably bc?

Aside from the sacrificing stuff, lol.
It's great to learn about them on the history channel and stuff.

3 seconds....compared to the 6 hours the english calendar is off by lol...and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar so we can't compare it to that. Mayans worshiped the sun so they did it that way. And yeah..it's very impressive to have done it so long ago

oh and the english calendar was way off up until like 300 or so years ago - the King or Church was it that had to take away 10 days from the calendar to even it up

and the greek and roman calendars were also very off - they only had 10 months until the time of the Caesars

I think that's why this myth got around. The Mayans were so accurate with everything, they couldn't be wrong.

Sure its the day the Mayan calender ends, but, honestly, people say that kind of thing to have the public cowaring in fear. THE WORLD WAS SUPPOSED TO END IN 2000. DID IT?

I'm not sure what I think about it honestly. I find it interesting that the calender ends on that day. My boyfriend and I have joked about getting married on that day so if the whole marriage thing is a mistake....then we wont have to live with it for very long. lol :laugh:

Now.. I heard something interesting, now this is all played by ear, if I remember, or my friend was reading it to me from a website over the phone.

Mayan's had multiple calendars, and some of them have already ran out.

I dont think this is going to happen. The Mayans were probably like "Lets just make this to 2012, the world probably wont be around that long so lets just end it there."

The Mayans probably thought the world would end sooner then that.

The movie kind of ticks me off though... "Learn the truth"? What truth? No one knows yet.

It's not the end. I don't believe in it, and I don't believe in fortune tellers. I've read, and watched many things about it and was really worried at first because I'm really into this stuff but I came to the conclusion that it's not true. People thought it was the end in 1999 and even sometime between 1900 and 2000 ( I believe it was 1947, 1948, 1949) Each year some American guy said it was the end and he even said a specific date. It's all just buisness ;) So as I said before, check this out it's pretty decent.

Its quite scary to think that could happen. But at the same time its impossible. The world is not going to end because the mayans said so. Thats like saying Im going to die when Im 100 years old. Even though they were quite intelligent no one can predict when the world is going to end.

I dont think its true, It might be another one of them Y2k moments... like 1999. Everyone was in stores in Guam (where I used to live) and packing up on food, buying last minute survival items.. whereas nothing really happened. Everyone just said "happy new year"
and that was it.

No, it's not true at all. people like to weave stories around something and want to make others panic and earn from it. if it ends on 2012 they will shout they were right and if it didn't end, they will shout that their prayers to god worked.

Well it's the year of the British Olympic games, and as a Brit I firmly believe it will be the end of all things, including scones and cream. Then again we do have a total muppet as the mayor of london (he looks like a mongrel version of the swedish chef and kermit, and talks as if he's royalty despite having the intellectual skills of a sexually violated rabbit), so it might be at least a laugh before we mess up an age-old tradition like the olympics. Now, if we can persuade the queen to do the pole-vault or some gymnastics in her union jack leotard we might be in luck, other than that we're all doomed ... DOOoooOOOMED!!!11
